I spent my gap year working as a freelance tree planter, contributing to vital ecological restoration efforts across remote regions of New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. This experience not only fueled my passion for the environment but also equipped me with valuable skills and a deep appreciation for Australia's diverse ecosystems.Key Responsibilities:• Planted a variety of native tree species (eucalyptus and pine trees mainly) to revegetate degraded areas and promote biodiversity. • Maintained a high standard of planting technique to ensure the long-term survival and growth of new trees. • Collaborated effectively with other planters and crew leaders, fostering a positive and productive work environment.• Demonstrated adaptability and a can-do attitude to overcome challenges presented by remote locations and varying weather conditions.Key Achievements:• Contributed to the planting of 300,000 native trees, actively working towards habitat restoration goals.• Developed a comprehensive understanding of native Australian plant ecosystems and their significance.• Honed expert tree planting techniques, ensuring proper planting depth, root care, and mulching for optimal growth. • Cultivated strong resourcefulness and problem-solving skills to address unexpected obstacles in the field.This experience instilled in me a deep appreciation for the importance of sustainable forestry practices and the crucial role tree planting plays in environmental conservation.

My aims and objectives this year as the External Vice President• Engage, cooperate and socialise with the NSW community of members: NSW and VIC Universities in, community leaders in the Vietnamese community, government councils, and local politicians• Fundraise and bring awareness to specific social issues domestic and abroad• Liaise the association and sponsorship for VSA to medium to large-sized businesses in order to achieve a common bottom line of social good• Implement initiatives to increase inclusiveness and diversity of incoming university students to engage with the society and explore career options
