I am the Chief & Director of the cellular therapy program where we translate, develop, manufacture and test novel cell therapies for cancer and infection. Trained as an Immunologist, I have an extensive background and interest in cellular therapy. For the past 18 years I have investigated and helped to translate the following into more than 25 clinical trials across academia and industry:*Virus-specific T cells for the prophylaxis and treatment of viral infections after transplant. *Tumor-specific T cells using both endogenous receptors (targeting Glioblastoma Multiforme) as well as chimeric antigen receptors (CARs, targeting CD19-positive malignancies). *A GMP-compliant method of manufacturing mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) using the Quantum cell expansion system for patients after stroke, graft-versus-host disease, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I have been the recipient of a number of awards from societies such as ASGCT, ISCT, and ASTCT.I am currently a certified Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) inspector, a member of the accreditation committee, and serve on the Board of Directors. I am the commissioning editor of the journal Cytotherapy, and am the immediate past VP of North America for ISCT, also serving on ISCT's board of directors. Energetic, pragmatic, motivated, and an expert in cell therapy–particularly in the GMP setting—I am strongly suited to lead the next phase of cell therapy trials and serve as a strategic advisor to companies in the cell and gene therapy space

Post Doctoral FellowBaylor College Of Medicine Mar 2011 - Jul 2013Houston, Texas, UsI currently work on bringing translational research into the clinic. Two of the projects that I work on in the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility include:- Generating virus-specific T cells from umbilical cord blood to treat viral infections after stem cell transplantation- Expanding allogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) to help offset trauma in stroke patients. -
Graduate StudentBaylor College Of Medicine Aug 2006 - Mar 2011Houston, Texas, UsThe overarching goal of my thesis was to protect patients from viral infections after stem cell transplantation. Specifically, I worked on generating virus-specific T cells from different donor sources (CMV-seronegative and CMV-seropositive donors as well as umbilical cord blood) for adoptive immunotherapy. This translational work has since been translated to the clinic.
