I have always had a great passion for science, biology in particular, and have been fortunate to be able to pursue this through my studies and laboratory positions. I particularly enjoyed the work I performed on my thesis on antibiotic resistance. It was while researching, performing the experiments, and presenting my findings where I became truly enamoured and realised that a career in the life sciences industry is where I see myself flourishing. While this topic was obviously both a vitally important and fascinating one, owing to the dwindling effectiveness of common antibiotics, and one that I would greatly love to continue, I am fascinated by the whole area of science and biology. The realisation that the this area of study is so massive and complex and that there is so much work left to do and so many discoveries left undiscovered that could potentially have massive repercussions on all life enthralled me. I found spending my time working in the lab and researching scientific papers in the library to be a pleasure and completed my work far in advance of the submission date due to my willingness to spend long hours immersing myself in the area of study and related topics and setting myself deadlines to complete each section of the work.Outside of study I enjoy blues dancing which has introduced me to people from all over the UK who travel to events to socialise, dance and teach. Many of the participants, I have discovered, also work in the life sciences; in industries and institutions. So it has also become an ideal time to discuss ideas and network with people in the scientific community. I have also enjoyed working for charities where I have been involved with children who have had a wide range of special needs. Volunteer work is very close to my heart and something I continue to this day.
