Chief Operating Officer
I was honored to be part of an innovative team leading the not-for-profit Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Inc. (BNMC, Inc.) an umbrella organization created by the institutions located on the Medical Campus. When I left, the organization was self sufficient and together with its member institutions, the BNMC continued to revitalize the Buffalo, NY economy..
Ski Bum
Well, I retired from UPS a little too young and without a plan. So I went skiing. I figured skiing was a good idea until I could buy a company, but I never found the right company (maybe because I was skiing too much) and before I knew it I'd been a ski bum for five years! Favorite resort? Whistler/Blackcomb. I know, I know, they are noted for bad.

Founder, President, & Ceo
A technology-driven logistics firm specializing in international distribution via freight forwarding and fulfillment services. With scalable IT platforms, the company grew with locations in the USA, Canada and Europe. By the mid-1990's, FSI became known as an IT company which also had trucks, docks, and warehouses. FSI was sold to UPS in September, 2000.
Co Founder
In the late 80's and early 90's PC software was sold in shrink-wrapped packages in stores or via direct mail as downloading was still way too slow. Almost of the marketing of PC software back then was done via direct mail. FSI had dozens of Canadian customers who were in the PC software business. Mailing from Canada to the USA was very expensive. As such.
Co-Founder
In the late 1980's FSI had become THE place to go for Canadians looking to expanding their business into the USA. But of course, not all Canadian business needed the services of FSI, which specialized in logistics and marketing. Some Canadian businesses were service providers and just needed an office. The Wurlitzer Building, home of FSI at that time was.
Co-Founder
Working for UPS, I knew shipping, plus I was a gadget freak who owned one of those new PCs: an Apple IIe. Ken Blake worked for IBM and knew computers and was fascinated by IBM's new product: the PC. Jack Kajfasz was a long-time mainframe programmer who had moved to "minicomputers" and knew the world would soon revolve around the PC. What a team. The three.
Various
I started as a part time loader working from 5 AM until 9 AM which allowed me to go to the University at Buffalo full time during the day. I made more money working 4 hours a day at UPS than I did for 8 hours work at Beals. Plus, UB had a division one hockey program. The team had a one-day try out for walk-ons. I made the cut as a 22-year old freshman.
Warehouse Worker / Truck Driver
At Beals my pay was a fraction of what I made as a bricklayer - even factoring in all of the time I was laid off (since I collected unemployment insurance during those times). Basically, my income was cut in half, but the Beals job allowed me to go back to school, albeit at night. I went to Canisius College where I played on the club hockey team - this.
Bricklayer
At J&L's Cleveland Works and later other steel mills, I got to lay new firebrick on blast furnace and hot blast stove reconstruction projects. This wasn't a great job, but it paid very well, and sure beat ripping out old firebricks as I had done at Algoma. I started at J&L in Cleveland on Monday September 21, 1970, which was the night of the first ever ABC.
Construction Laborer
Hardest job -physically- I've had. I worked inside a hot blast stove. A hot blast stove preheats air for a blast furnace. It consists of an outer shell of steel plates, riveted to form a cylindrical chamber about 60' high, 28' in diameter, with a dome-shaped roof. It looks like a farm silo - except bigger. The chamber is lined internally with insulation.
Soda Bar Delivery Boy
While trying to cram three years of high school classes into one year, I worked evenings for Sports Service, now called Delaware North at what was then named Rosary Hill College, now called Daemen College. I worked in the snack bar. Rosary Hill was an all female school then. The girls would call the snack bar, place orders, and I would deliver the orders.
