Patrick Lootens graduated at the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the University of Leuven in 1981. Because of his interest in complex large-scale projects, rapid global urbanization and future spatial development he obtained a Masters in Urbanism and Strategic Planning in 2013.Together with Mauro Poponcini, Patrick Lootens founded Poponcini & Lootens in 1991. In 2015, they changed the name into POLO Architects. The office for architecture, urbanism and interior design has expanded into a multidisciplinary team of over 100 creative professionals with offices in Antwerp and Brussels.Over the years POLO Architects has built up a national and international portfolio of architecture, urban planning, and interior design projects; notably the competition winning entry for AP Hogeschool Antwerpen (BE) and Cadiz, a multifunctional housing complex in Antwerp (BE); the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels (BE) & the HQ for Inbev in Leuven; and the Flemish Administrative Centre in Ghent, Belgium. Other projects comprise a hospitality project in Cabo Verde and Urban Development projects in Vietnam and The Netherlands, to mention a few.
