I’ve been in the business-of-healthcare industry since day one of my career (as a hospital storeroom clerk), and I love it. In fact, my first memory of thinking about a career was when I was probably 10 or 11 years old. I visited a sick relative at Hershey Medical Center with my parents. Maybe it was the smell of the city’s chocolate, but I remember driving away and looking at the hospital and thinking that someday I wanted to be its CEO.While I am not Hershey Med’s CEO, I have been CEO of three healthcare companies that successfully sold via strategic sale. I currently teach Business at Penn State University. Coincidently, Hershey Medical Center is now Penn State Hershey Medical Center, so it “almost” comes full circle! My strengths are as follows:— I engage, inspire, and motivate teams to achieve their BIG goals.— I make hard work FUN! It’s contagious and it grows profitability.— I simplify complex topics and effectively communicate them to all stakeholders in a way that ensures clarity and goal alignment.— I am an expert in leveraging data, financial modeling, and social marketing to gain short- and long-term competitive advantages. On a personal note, I am married to my beautiful wife Carolyn since 1997 and have two wonderful daughters, Grace and Catherine (they both attend PSU).I love learning, I’m an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Rocky Balboa fan, enjoy the strategy game Pente and learning about the Bible (such an incredibly wise book!). I am a 10th-generation Plummer from Pennsylvania, and my father’s farm was deeded to the Plummer family by William Penn. How cool is that? And my 61st grandfather was Pompey the Great, the Roman General who was assassinated by Julius Caesar…crazy! My ONE-word description: GRATEFUL (as in, I’m grateful to God for all of the blessings of my life)My aspiration: To always "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Matthew 7:12My favorite quote: “It’s not about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward…how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” — Rocky Balboa. My second favorite quote: “Whatever you are, be a good one.” — Abraham Lincoln
