I performed my nuclear engineering doctoral research at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). My time at INL was focused on developing additive processes for nuclear materials and energy applications. As an intern, I played a significant role in establishing capability with digital light processing (DLP) additive manufacturing of ceramics, metals, and composites at INL. I was an author of three INL invention disclosure records, two of which matured to non-provisional patent applications. These two submissions were for additive manufacturing processes dealing with heterogeneous nuclear fuels (2018; patent pending) and heat pipe materials (2023; non-provisional patent submission).

Laboratory For The Development Of Advanced Nuclear Fuels And Materials

Development of accident tolerant fuels and materials using the spark plasma sintering technique (SPS). Work included development of SiC and diamond nanoparticle doped UO2 under the Framatome (Areva) accident tolerant fuel campaign. Additional work with SPS included development of accident tolerant control materials including high density consolidation of HfB2 and HfC. I also developed methods for fabrication of wear-resistant SPS tooling. Graduate work also included the NEUP IRP, "Experimental Determination and Modeling of Used Fuel Drying by Vacuum and Gas Circulation for Dry Cask Storage" in collaboration with the University of South Carolina. This involved creating surrogate CeO2 pellets with enhanced porosity for use in Atrium-10 fuel pin drying experiments.
