Since you're reading this, I must assume that you are a recruiter sneaking onto my Robert Half page to find out more about me, OR you're a co-worker of such a recruiter, and they left their computer on and unlocked while they went to lunch. Shame on you, and please don't solve the solitaire game for them, okay? In either case, you're lucky—this will be a fun read.I have been a professional creator of video and interactive E-Learning online learning for over 20 years, utilizing Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Creative Cloud, and a host of other applications, working in a multitude of industries. Among the industries I've worked for, you'll find: Health Insurance General Agency, Mental Health Clinics, Mortgage Banking, and Industrial Analytical and Detection Equipment. To cut to the chase—whatever your Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and knowledge experts can convey to me, I can put into engaging eLearning or teach in a classroom or via the web.And through all of these industries, all of the CRMs, gas detectors, and pH probes, there was always the Patrick Naillon touch. Sharp graphics, custom-designed animations, professional voiceover skills (due to my theatrical background and professional speaking voice)—good for Instructional Design, Instructor-Led Training (ILT), Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), or any type of necessary public speaking. What does all this add up to? There's no industry you can put me in where I won't rise to the top. In addition to my skills creating impactful and memorable training, I have the ability to learn any industry or discipline I work for. As I've said in the past when asked why an employer shouldn't just hire a professional in their field (say, gas chromatography) to create their training materials, I say, "If you want to build a gas chromatograph, hire someone with a Masters in Gas Chromatography. If you want top-quality training materials, hire me, and I'll work with your SMEs to create the best training you, your employees, and customers have ever had."From day one, you can rely on me to be engaged, learning, meeting, and bonding with the team, digging into what I'm expected to know and learn, and creating various artifacts to store, organize, and track my work—all for your success and mine.I'm ready for the next step. I hope to hear from you soon.

Technical TrainerTripoint Solutions Mar 2024 - PresentHappy to have announce I've found a great position with a solid company - Tripoint Solutions - where I'll be working with a great team to train workers of all levels and promote top-quality training materials. More to come on WHAT exactly I'll be training in, but a guy who can learn and teach Quantum-Cascade laser-based gas analysis can pretty much teach anything! -
Instructional Designer/Technical TrainerAthena Elearning Oct 2023 - Mar 2024Twin Cities, MinnesotaOpen for work as a Media Training Professional. I have experience, skill, and unique talents to create top of the line training videos and interactive training. -
Senior Instructional Designer/Technical TrainerCross Media Sep 2019 - Oct 2023Roseville, Minnesota, United StatesFor Cross Media, I worked as Instructional designer and creator using Adobe Captivate, Premiere Pro, Audition, and Photoshop. ILT and VILT for external customers and onboarding of employees. Additionally, I worked as product SME for the Unify CRM for the mortgage industry, and assisted in QA and business analysis of Unify. While I had worked in the past in the mortgage industry, this was a new wrinkle - a CRM custom designed for loan originators, and not only a CRM, but a revenue-generating platform, intending to increase their sales and commissions. This again underscores what I have stated in my posts to LinkedIn AND to potential employers - DON'T hold out for an Instructional Designer with a Masters degree, or 7+ years of experience in YOUR industry - hire the best Instructional Designer, with great communication skills, and they'll plug in with your EXISTING SME's (and you know you have them), and you'll get the best possible outcome.

Instructional DesignerEmerson Process Management May 2014 - Sep 2019Shakopee, Minnesota, United StatesAt Emerson Process management, I worked as Instructional Designer for 5 major product lines of industrial analytical equipment.Having NO experience in any of these areas of process management, I worked with SME's to craft dozens of interactive training courses, using Articulate Storyline, Adobe Premiere, Audition, and After Effects. As with other roles, I did not need to previously have a degree in the specific industry or the science behind it - my job as instructional designer is to KNOW MY TOOLS - Captivate, Storyline, Audition - while the SME's at the company provided the raw information on how sensors and analyzers work. This is how companies truly get the best of both worlds - their existing knowledge champions and my professional knowledge of how to create world-class online training. -
Senior Instructional DesignerAthena Elearning Jan 2011 - May 2014Through Athena eLearning, I produce software training and marketing/sales videos, to software companies. I create training videos in Adobe Captivate, which show users in real time and on their monitors, the software which they are considering purchasing, or are being trained to use. Video software training is the best way for teaching a company's employees, as the videos are available 24/7, can be uploaded to the web (YouTube is an example), and may be viewed at the user's own pace. Additionally, software training videos allow for the user to be tested interactively by the video, to insure that they have learned a lesson. As a consultant, I will work with a company to meet their needs - whether creating training videos for legacy systems, hosting webinars to train or market products, or creating training videos to be packaged with a software product - I have what it takes to deliver the training your customers and employees need. -
Instructional DesignerMaui Jim Jan 2014 - Mar 2014Tustin, CaFor a short-term contract with Maui Jim, I mostly stayed behind the lines (what, no ILT this time?) and worked creating online training materials in Adobe Captivate. Great fun, but no one offered me a free pair of sunglasses! -
Corporate TrainerAaa Jan 2014 - Mar 2014Dearborn, MiHired to help train Auto Club employees at their Dearborn, MI location - I had to work hard with SME's and co-workers alike. This contract drew on a LOT of people skills! We contractors started with insufficient slide decks for our training, classrooms with no wifi, and thus no way for US to get our proper training, last-minute changes to major portions of training slide decks, and difficult co-workers on the contract. Through it all – I persisted – and we all came out on top, getting all our classrooms trained and on time.

Instructional DesignerCardflex, Inc. Sep 2013 - Dec 2013Costa Mesa, CaI contracted (as Athena eLearning) with CardFlex, to create training videos for their 'TipCentral' software.I believe this company is no longer in business. -
Corporate TrainerMarsh & Mclennan Companies, Inc. Jul 2013 - Sep 2013Irvine, Ca And Denver, CoWorking for Marsh & McLennan, I worked with their SME’s in learning their proprietary investment software for internal sales. Additionally, I was facilitator for VILT sessions for their offices throughout the country. -
Corporate TrainerThe Capital Group Mar 2013 - Jun 2013Irvine, CaAs Instructional Designer and Technical Trainer – this job had it all!I facilitated multiple VILT sessions for The Capital Group’s worldwide offices. Some days started with 5 AM facilitating a 2 hour Zoom training meeting for European time zones., then driving into the local office, spending the day working at creating instructional design videos and on-demand manual sheets for MS Outlook as requested, and finally back to my hotel – for another 2 hour Zoom training session for far eastern offices. This gig drew heavily on my interpersonal skills, as on this contract I was assisting with the migration of a 55,000+ employee organization to MS Outlook from their old software. I fielded calls and drop-bys all day long, asking about particular use-case scenarios, and how to accomplish in Outlook. This is a key skill of mine – when someone asks, “How do I do X?” I have the interview skills to ascertain ‘What is the final goal you want to accomplish?” – people don’t often know how to articulate their ultimate goal, but in engaging them in conversation, I can always find their desired outcome, and work with them to achieve it.

Instructional DesignerThe Guidance Center, Long Beach Jul 2011 - Jul 2012Long Beach, CaFor The Guidance Center, I took on the Welligent Mental Health Facility EHR, and created a beginning to end series of interactive training items in Adobe Captivate. Working with the clinical therapists, doctors, and managers of TGC, I delivered a CD-ROM designed to instantly start up, offering the learner a central menu and the ability to jump to any training needed. Additionally, all trainings had ‘jump to’ links, allowing a clinician to re-visit something they needed to brush up on, without having to wait through the entire video. My knowledge of not only Welligent, but of the daily routines, needs, and knowledge of clinicians led one board member to suggest that I be hired as clinician myself, as I had learned so much of their work! -
Instructional Designer/Technical TrainerWord & Brown Nov 1998 - Feb 2011Orange, California, United StatesIt was at the Word & Brown Companies, I first started as an Instructional Designer. Working then as a business analyst on the then new ‘AgencyWow’ software, I was introduced to Adobe Captivate, and from there, discovered my truest skills – Instructional Design and Technical Training. With my background in theatre and performing arts, I took to Captivate instantly, and created dozens of interactive and straight video trainings. These were used in Marketing, Sales, onboarding, client training – even added to a ‘Help’ file which I created for end users, and the Customer Service team used my videos constantly – sending links to people emailing in with questions. This cut Customer Service ticket resolution time DRASTICALLY, as no one had to explain using AgencyWow over the phone to an anxious user. -
Customer Service/Instructional DesignerMegasys Sep 1997 - Oct 1998Responsible for customer servicing for off-prime auto lending institutions. Traveled to client sites for installation training of client personnel. Became company's lead installation trainer after 6 months on the job.
