Patrick is a founder, company builder and operator with 18 years of experience in building early and growth stage companies. He is a data driven problem solver with expertise in general management, operations, go-to-market strategy, business development, strategic finance and analytics. Most recently, Patrick was the Founder & CEO of Empath Interactive, makers of ELFKINS (robotic smart toy). In addition to leading business strategy, he led product development, driving the project from concept to launch. He raised funding from Sean Parker and recruited an all-star advisory board including Tom Kalinske (former CEO of Mattel, Sega, LeapFrog) and Ron Johnson (Apple, JC Penney, Enjoy). Prior to Empath, Patrick was part of the original team that started Jawbone, a consumer electronics manufacturer. Patrick served as CFO & VP of Business Operations and managed the day to day operations of Jawbone. He helped grow revenue from $0 to $140M in 2 years, reaching profitability <6 months after product launch. He helped raise >$40M over multiple funding rounds led by Mayfield, Khosla Ventures and Sequoia Capital. Patrick was also GM of e-commerce & direct sales where he generated >50% of the company’s profits. Patrick was recognized with a TechFellow Award (sponsored by Founders Fund & NEA) in General Management for his work at Jawbone. Patrick was also CEO of Five Apes, a computer vision/AI company where he commercialized 10+ years of academic research. He raised funding from Founders Fund, hired the core development team, set the go-to-market strategy and signed the initial revenue generating customers. Patrick has also worked at Lightspeed Venture Partners and was an early employee at Loudcloud/Opsware. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. In his spare time, Patrick enjoys running, skiing and advising/mentoring a product development course at U.C. Berkeley.
