• Planning & coordinating R&D project on current pattern of Beta-Thalassemia in Malaysia.• Selecting and purchasing all equipments and reagents relating to project.• Do sampling by collecting blood sample from Thalassemia patient in Government Hospitals.• Processing the blood sample, extracting and purifying DNA by solvent extraction & HPLC method.• Amplifying the DNA by PCR method using Perkins Amer PCR machine.• Using commercial probe to anneal to amplified DNA by Southern Blotting.• Looking under UV light to see the pattern of migration.• Analysis research data and submitting progress report to the R&D committee.• Method used were DNA extraction & purification by organic solvent and ultra-high speed centrifugation method, further purification by HPLC, Southern blotting.
