Patrick was the central contributor to our biggest hiring year to-date in Engineering here at Gusto. He simply hired more software engineers than any other recruiter here during that time. Patrick can be trusted to manage the most complex and specialized hiring pipelines, as well as volume hiring pipelines. He does so with both speed and intention, balancing the careful equilibrium required to practice recruiting exceptionally well. 2. Patrick is a strong partner to both other recruiters and hiring leaders. Patrick is someone who excels at coaching and mentorship of other recruiters, both at a high-level (strategic thinking, career development, etc) as well as on tactical items (closing candidates, timing, etc). He’s also near-mastery at stakeholder management (org design, D&I hiring, etc). There are some identifiable attributes which make Patrick great at these things (strong communication, presence, and influence), and there are some things which are truly about intuition and natural ability. You’ll rarely talk to anyone who’s worked closely with Patrick that doesn’t praise him as “the best recruiter I’ve ever worked with.” 3. Patrick is a strong partner to candidates. Patrick is one of those recruiters who takes the time to deeply understand candidate motivations and pressure points. He knows a lot about the technical side of things, for a recruiter. This allows him to connect with candidates in a special kind of way. Besides the technical, Patrick has strong intuition about human emotion and motivation. I’ve seen him form true friendships with candidates he’s recruited, and this kind of relationship is powerful. I could write a lot more about Patrick, but the purpose of a LinkedIn recommendation is to communicate strengths quickly. In short, I can’t imagine a recruiting team Patrick couldn’t help. He’s the type of performer that levels up an organization through both pace- and example-setting, and he takes a lot of pride in his work. The position was an ideal fit for me with my past experience. I was out of work for 5 months up to that point and I was being really selective about my next position. I really wanted to find that one job that I could be happy at for a very long time to come and Stanford looked like that job! I replied to his message and the mass of emails and phone calls began. It was just starting the holiday season and as we all know, the hiring process can get delayed during this time of year. Patrick and I stuck it out through all the interviews with SWS (Stanford Web Services) and he updated me with important feedback that was key in me advancing through the interview process. I have never been so engaged with a recruiter as I was with Patrick. After all the interviews, it came down to me and one other person who was local to the Stanford area. I have been working remotely out of Little Rock, Arkansas for the last 8 years. I was informed that SWS preferred someone local, but I killed the interviews, so it's all up to negotiating at that point. In the end, I was hired by SWS and started in January of 2018.
