My role entails mentorship, technical leadership, point of escalation, technical guidance, and development of all 8 DBAs within the corporation. My role also consists of defining database standards, evaluating new and emerging database technologies, driving the evolution of the database platform, cloud adoption, automation, source control and setting strategic direction. I give regular training and technical sessions to peers and support teams to develop understanding of new and existing database technologies within the corporation.I was put forward by my management team to develop my skills in technical leadership with an internal program called Emerging leaders, this is a program to identify and grow leaders within BCLC.Currently, I work in a team that follows the Agile methodology for approximately 75% of my time. This team manages the Casino platform infrastructure. I design and architect new and existing database solutions, I also supervise and assist the other DBAs with traditional DBA tasks. The rest of my time is to consult with other lines of business, and offer my expertise as needed on all database technologies.Some of my achievements are to act as the database lead on designing and building a new anti-money laundering system (AML). This is be built within AWS on EC2 instances and RDS utilising SQL Server. I also introduced SQL code deployments and automation using Redgate Flyway\Jenkins and database provisioning with Redgate SQL Clone. I am assisting the giving advice to a new Lottery system using AWS Aurora MySQL.I am the database design lead on an initiative to migrate the Casino infrastructure to Microsoft Azure, focussing on innovation and modernisation on this major cloud project. The role entails total responsibility and ownership of all the database infrastructure within the Casino division including performance tuning, design, maintenance, code release,availability and system upgrades\replacements. The Casino Production Database environment includes 50+ SQL Server 2012 to 2019 instances, I also manage non-production environments consisting of approximately 200 SQL Server instances. I have been the technical DBA lead and successfully completed 3 major Gaming Management System (GMS) replacements, this entailed all aspects of design, build, migration and implementation of brand-new SQL Server infrastructure, each time leveraging new SQL server technologies producing Highly available, secure, and optimal performing systems. My last major project was the GMS replacement encompassing 40+ SQL servers with SQL Server 2016 and 2019 and implementing full HA\DR with full site independence using Always-On Availability Groups and implementing new features like in-memory and TDE encryption.As the senior DBA in the corporation, I am responsible for defining new database standards and procedures for existing and new database technologies across the corporation, now embracing cloud technologies.
