As a creative entrepreneur, I am President and Founder of Story Center Productions, a documentary and video production company in Washington, DC. Running an independent production company utilizes filmmaking and storytelling skills as a director and producer along with management and marketing skills. My latest film, CURED, is an award-winning documentary that celebrates a heroic group of activists who achieved a monumental victory in the fight for LGBTQ equality and dignity. With more than 20 awards and accolades, including a 2022 Emmy Award nomination, the documentary has been described as “fascinating” (Hollywood Reporter), “riveting” (The Queer Review), and “one of the best documentaries of this or any year” (British Film Institute). CURED, which I co-produced and co-directed with Bennett Singer, takes viewers inside the David-versus-Goliath battle that led the American Psychiatric Association to remove the diagnosis of homosexuality from its manual of mental illnesses in 1973. CURED had its US broadcast premiere on the acclaimed PBS series “Independent Lens” and has attracted more than two million viewers worldwide. With Bennett Singer, I’ve participated in nearly 250 screening events, including more than 80 workplace DEI presentations hosted by leading corporations, law firms, and government agencies. Previously, I was the Creator and Executive Producer of CODEBREAKER, a “superb” (The Telegraph) and “imaginative” (Sunday Times) drama-documentary that “artfully explored” (The Mail) the life and legacy of Alan Turing, one of the 20th century’s most important people. Instead of being celebrated, the father of computer science and heroic World War II codebreaker was persecuted for being gay and driven to an early death. The award-winning film has attracted more than three million viewers around the globe. Aside from documentary films, I produce and direct short film and video projects for a diverse array of corporate and non-profit clients including, among others, The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, Equality Utah, the Computing Research Association (CRA), and the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). Developing budgets, managing production teams, overseeing logistics, conducting interviews, developing scripts, and working with editors, I create compelling short films and web videos on time and on budget. A summa cum laude graduate of Syracuse University, I started my career as an award-winning television news reporter at two local CBS affiliates in Northern New York and Northeast Tennessee.
