API Redesign • My first project was to redesign our Features system from an overly complex set of database tables to a single JSON array with faster lookups for determining account permissions • My second project was to redesign the User/Role/Account hierarchy such that role permissions descend at any point of the account tree, but that they do not allow access up the tree • I optimized several Tomcat API calls, one using a closure table that reduced the time for one API call from 50 seconds down to less than a second • For the biggest project of my tenure at Advanse, I converted 95% of our Tomcat applets into a completely custom PHP API library. The only external library used was the Propel ORM PHP API• Built the entire framework of the API with only myself and one other developer • Ported Gson to PHP, with a single GsonObject class capable of serializing and deserializing PHP classes into JSON • Created an extensible Transform class capable of transforming database objects into PHP classes, and vice versa • Created an extensible TransformParam class that allowed each column of the database to trigger automatic joins and generate metadata to be used by the frontend for drawing objects • Created Get/Post/Put/Delete REST commands, and then expanded on these with custom commands • One custom command, the ListingCommand, could translate a series of GET parameters into a MySQL query and return a JSONArray
