In 1964 I started teaching. It was hard but I stuck at it and developed a passion for it. In recent decades, I have designed and run development events with adults in the public, private and third sectors focusing on the workplace as a source of learning. I believe that in any learning situation if everyone is not learning something useful, then it’s probably a waste of time. Learning happens in every situation in which we find ourselves: it’s not restricted to classrooms and formal education. I go along with Mark Twain who said something like "Don't let schooling get in the way of learning."We spend a lot of our time at work. In the workplace we ‘pick up’ ideas, understandings and skills, but because they're part and parcel of doing the job, they're often not valued, not recognised.
