Vice President, Strategy & Innovation
CurrentAs a member of the Strategy & Innovation group, I am focused on creating new businesses in the fields of supply chain, logistics, and trade management. While remaining firmly grounded in the present, we peer into the future of these industries to identify opportunities in the digitally transforming ecosystem and create solutions that help customers thrive.
Vice President, Network Solutions
In this role, I lead a global team that helps customers achieve improved performance in their supply chains and logistics networks through collaboration on a range of different types of improvement projects. We are particularly specialized in network design & optimization where we've completed hundreds of projects across a variety of industries in nearly all world regions. We use advanced modeling, optimization and simulation software to help customers make decisions that are data driven and will sustain high performance as their networks evolve over time.We help customers reduce and/or re-balance inventories and improve their business processes through a combination of lean initiatives and intelligent technology adoption. Our team is also responsible for the design of Lead Logistics and other types of integrated solutions that tend to have high levels of both complexity and nuance. As our customers wrestle with a combination of increasing complexity and relentless pressure for improved supply chain performance, we have a unique opportunity to deliver tremendous value to them in these areas.
Industry Leader, Industrial / Automotive / Life Science
In this role, I directed market strategy, service offerings and business development in these industry sectors. The core focus of this business unit was warehousing & distribution, but an equally important secondary focus was Managed Transportation and Lead Logistics Provider solutions. I worked very closely with customers in each of these industries, helping them leverage our partnership to improve distribution and fulfillment performance.
Senior Vice President
I was recruited internally within Danzas AEI to lead the commercial group of this Deutsche Post start-up, focused on LLP/4PL engagements with customers and providing internal support to DHL business units. Our services struck a balance between supply chain design and logistics execution, with consulting services as well as managed transportation services. Our customer engagements were typically focused on strategic and tactical planning, with a heavy concentration on technology. After the initial start-up period, I took on a broader responsibility for company operations as part of a 3 person executive team. My responsibilities included commercial & partner strategy, solution design, technology selection and operations.
Vice President, Global Business Development
In this role, I lead a business development and account management team in the North America region, focused mainly on US-based Fortune 500 companies. Through a team of 15 directors, we designed and implemented a wide variety of logistics and transportation solutions that helped customers reduce cost and improve performance in their networks. We created and sustained relationships that were based on trust, integrity and mutual benefit.
Vice President, Global Bid Response
This was an interim role during the merger between Danzas and AEI. My initial responsibility was to integrate the bid response teams for the 2 companies. Our efforts quickly broadened as we recognized that customer needs required an increasing level of customization in the solutions we were proposing. It was also clear that doing this job effectively meant getting much closer to the customers we were creating proposals for, so we could gain a level of understanding for the machinations of their networks, and the challenges they faced. As a result of this change, we did a lot of work to upgrade the capability of the team and to differentiate our offerings in a way that inspired confidence on the part of our customers.
Vice President, Global Trade Management
In this role, I lead a team of US based trade lane managers who focused on Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America. Our role was a hybrid, combining a mix of business development with product & capability development. We engaged with customers all over the world, bring trade lane, geographic and logistics expertise to bear on solution design and execution performance.
Director, Business Development - Asia
This role had me driving business development between Asia and the US. At the time, the trade lane was fairly small, so I did a lot of hands-on work with customers and colleagues to establish our credibility and deliver value through customized solutions. Throughout the 4 years in this role, I spent a lot of time in Asia, learning the logistics of the region, the geography and most importantly, the culture.
National Manager, Air / Ocean Services
In this role, I was the product manager for air and ocean services for the Canadian unit of Danzas. My responsibilities included capacity management, service quality, solution design and pricing. As part of a global product management team for both air and ocean freight, I traveled frequently to many parts of the world to team up with colleagues and develop/implement innovative ideas for customers.
Regional Manager, Air Freight
In this role, I was responsible for air freight and domestic operations for the province of Quebec as well as the eastern Canadian provinces. This included P&L responsibility, staffing, sales support, capability development and customer engagement.During these 4 years, I traveled to Asia frequently.
Ocean Freight Manager
In this role, I was responsible for ocean freight operations for the province of Quebec as well as the eastern Canadian provinces. This included P&L responsibility, staffing, sales support, capability development and customer engagement.During these 4 years, I traveled to South Asia frequently (Pakistan & India predominantly), gaining a deep appreciation for the unique logistics challenges in emerging markets and shaping my views about the value of tailor-made logistics solutions.
Sales Executive
This was a classic sales role, but I approached it very differently than most. Through specialization in exports to the Middle East (this was during an intense growth period there fueled by the oil boom), I focused on selling the strength of our solutions and our knowledge of the region as a competitive differentiator. This approach led to the acquisition of a very large share of the available market, and a loyal base of customers who depended on our support to navigate this complex region. My first overseas trip happened during this period - to Saudi Arabia for 3 full weeks. This was the beginning of a lifetime of curiosity about foreign geographies and cultures.
Sales Executive
This was a classic sales role, focusing initially on Europe, then migrating more towards the Middle East region.
Export Operations
In this role, I coordinated shipments for a large engineering firm who was completing a project in Saudi Arabia. These included standard containerized moves and more complex, oversized shipments that moved break-bulk and Ro/Ro.
Advising Clerk
This was my entry into the logistics business, working for an ocean carrier doing manifest control, broker communications and in-bond container moves.
