Even from a young age I have loved solving problems. As a kid they were strategy games to optimize. In high school it was math problems. I took my first programming course my senior year of high school and I knew I found my next set of captivating problems. At my current job I develop desktop and web applications in the Business Analytics space, adding features such as version control and deploying content to platforms such as IBM Cognos Analytics, IBM Planning Analytics, and Qlik Sense. One project that will always stand out is a new product that I helped create, a high performance agent that monitors user activity in real time on IBM Planning Analytics servers. My boss and I shared a common vision and development standards, and that project will always be a testament to what can be accomplished when you have that. I'm currently improving our version control and other designs for Qlik Sense, with an eye toward the future as we add support for more Business Analytics platforms. Maintaining and extending this web app's large tech stack has imparted the importance of designing maintainable solutions towards which all team members can contribute.In my spare time, I find a good book to be a wonderful way to conclude the day. My younger self loved science fiction and history, the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov being one that stands out (which probably is not surprising as it combines both). Nowadays I find myself drawn to material from our industry professionals. Some nights I spend clicking through Martin Fowler's blog, particularly his articles on software architecture. I've also found Martin Thompson's talks on high performance code fascinating. I stand on the shoulders of giants, and I only wish to make a positive impact however I can.
