Fundamental research into the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Huntington's Disease and other disorders.Using state-of-the-art solid state NMR spectroscopy we probe protein aggregation, protein misfolding and protein-lipid interactions effecting mitochondrial apoptosis. Mentoring, training and teaching in the Molecular Biophysics and Structural Biology graduate program of Pitt and CMU, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's MD/PhD program (MSTP).

Fundamental research in the formation of misfolded protein aggregates ("amyloid"), through the use and development of advanced magic angle spinning (MAS) solid state NMR. Application and development of new techniques in MAS ssNMR spectroscopy as well as dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP), as applied to biological protein and peptide assemblies.
