Since a young age I have always had an urge to learn new skills and to explore the unknown. In my Polish secondary school I was voted to become the school president and in this role I have refurbished a long broken school radio for which I am still remembered. In my twenties I moved to UK and worked as a Kitchen Porter. Within 18 months of arriving I completed NVQ cookery courses level 2 and 3 and was promoted to Head Chef. In this position I restructured the kitchen, simple accounting measures, documenting gross profit estimates using excel and actively developing good relationships with suppliers. The changes I implemented increased the Health and Safety rating by a star, increased profits and I was awarded bonuses for these accomplishments. Before starting my Masters Course at Leeds University I completed a 12-month placement with the chemical enterprise company BASF which is located in Bradford. I was leading a large structural engineering project, initially designing pipe supports myself then with time I was given a draftsman. Additionally, I entered into negotiations with our supplier to use their resources and to help us with time-consuming 3D modelling. Restructuring workfolk and using external assets more than doubled the speed of this work while drastically lowering the cost of the project.At Leeds University being part of many clubs and being a president of Polish society allowed me to raise awareness of my culture and meet other international communities, making me more aware of issues within other cultures and communities. In my professional life, I strongly value taking full responsibility for my own mistakes and having the capacity and strength to work in a pressurised environment. Furthermore I prize open mindedness to new ideas and entrepreneurial drive. I was able to take part in building a school in Uganda, a very enriching experience that increased my cultural awareness and appreciation for my comfortable life in Europe. In my private life, I enjoy snowboarding and horse riding as well as reading adventure books.

I started with simple jobs as I learned AutoCAD to gain higher design jobs. I started with simple projects like making a new bedplate for the reactor and new pump bases before my own eight-month project to create over 100 pipe supports conforming with new European Standard EN1090. My work entailed me to design a set of programs to calculate beam deflection, pipe weight and thermal pipe expansion, sheer forces in bolts and also build a database to document my work. This assignment involved me making informed decisions on the type and location of the supports as well as managing and overseeing the workflow and installation. I had to create ways to make my project more efficient, like employing a draftsman and restructuring workflow. After a few months, I was granted permission to approve construction of my designs. The workflow was very efficient in dropping the error count well below the target of 10%, which effectively dropped the cost of the entire scheme.= -

The Kitchens performance also increased with good team building efforts and as a result the health and safety inspector improved rating of the restaurant. I was also responsible for organising the whole dining experience with the guests and regularly speaking with them gave me an understanding of their individual high expectations as well as respecting and accommodating their different needs.
