After 28 years practicing law myself, I shifted gears, returned to school for a masters in applied positive psychology, and for a decade used positive psychology principles to coach lawyers in search of a more meaning. At the onset of the pandemic, I "rightsized" my living quarters and was faced with unpacking my "stuff." At that point, I had an AHA moment. The dreaded process of keeping or discarding stuff could actually be joyful! It connected me with my life stories and values. And I got to decide which stories were empowering - and would go with me - and which were better left behind. Stories are powerful, and they've always been part of my life - first as a news reporter, then as a lawyer probing others' stories, also as a humor columnist sharing stories and then a coach, listening to client stories. I'm delighted now to incorporate stories into this new phase of my work, i.e., helping you unpacking YOUR stories as you literally move on to your next phase. Soon I'll be sharing my own stories in a book, "Unpacking A Life: Reflections of a Rightsizer."The importance of our stories is also grounded in positive psychology principles. It is the narrative we create that propels us through our lives.
