About Pat Swanson

I do some of my best thinking when glancing at a lion-themed nesting doll that sits off to the right of my laptop. The doll, to me, is the most versatile and relevant metaphor in business. Over my decade-long career, it’s been a reminder to dig to the heart of a story, to explore the steps of a user experience, to understand the strategic positioning of a company, and more. It’s also, literally speaking, a children’s toy – and that’s certainly a form that it took on many times over the wonderful two years that I spent as a stay-at-home-dad of two.Now resuming my career, I'm excited to bring aspects of each of those chapters to my next role. While my time at work and in school helped give me a diverse set of professional skills and experiences to build upon, my time at home complemented it by helping me develop the perspective to be an empathetic leader in the years ahead. And, of course, in addition to those intangibles, there's that one very tangible trinket that I'll be bringing to the role as well.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Adobe Indesign, Wordpress, Indesign, and 29 others.

I learned a tremendous amount in my short time at Circle, which is the issuer of the stablecoin USDC. The most valuable aspect of the role is the point of view it gave me, as I was attracted to it in part because of its mix of similarities and contrasts to what I’d done previously. Upon launch, I served as editor and led an informal team of writers and multimedia experts across the company. We focused our efforts on sharing meaningful news and telling compelling stories – the latter mostly about people, ranging from a Boise employee who hand-sewed and distributed 7,000 face masks during the pandemic to a Minneapolis employee who was the sole member of the Venezuelan cross-country ski team. As we learned what types of content worked best, as editor I focused on driving results that would impact the brand reputation and bottom line for U.S. Bank. Those include:- Creating editorial strategy that drove 1M annual page views to the blog within three years of launch and, more importantly, led to press coverage in top-tier outlets including CNN, Fast Company, The Wall Street Journal and Fortune.- Driving more than 10K digital product applications, such as for automated investing, home mortgages, credit cards, small business loans, checking accounts designed for underbanked individuals, and more.- Sourcing the most-shared Facebook post in company history at the time, as well as curating posts that on average performed 80% above company benchmark on Facebook and 20% over company benchmark on LinkedIn.Meanwhile, I continued to be drawn toward identifying opportunities for U.S. Bank to better tell its story in digital spaces. This led to an expanded role managing the ‘About us’ section of our website, including leading a cross-functional, $500K project to rebuild its user experience.Over the course of this role, I also had fun with relative extracurriculars, such as being invited to work on high-stakes events at U.S. Bank Stadium, including for U.S. Bank social media efforts during Super Bowl LII and for the NCAA as a media relations volunteer during Final Four 2019. I had the opportunity to be a part of an annual think tank, reverse mentoring and leadership development program which fewer than 150 employees (of ~30K eligible) had been asked by our U.S. Bank executive team to participate in over the previous decade.
