About Patsy White
I am passionate about helping people with disabilities become self-advocates. I work within the people with disabilities community, as an advocate, to raise awareness of issues relating to the quality of life. Education is the ticket to a better life, and I have made it my mission to make sure every child has the opportunity for a quality education. I believe all children can learn and it is the responsibility of educators to provide the supports and services for children with disabilities to access the general education curriculum.I started my advocacy 30 years ago, while my husband was in the Navy. I was selected by our Captain to be the liaison between the crew and the command. Empowering families to find solutions to their problems was a natural fit for my talents. When my husband retired from the Navy, we moved back to Louisiana to help care for my terminally ill mother. Shortly after returning to Louisiana, my oldest son, Michael was born and so began another chapter in my life. Michael was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a diagnosis I had never heard of until we received the diagnosis. So much has happened in the past 21 years. My skills as an advocate have increased as well as my passion for empowering others. I have reached a point in my life when I am no longer trying to change myself to fit into this world, but I am changing the world around me to match the needs of my community.
