    Built a new group chat app with intuitive threading, end-to-end encryption, and easy-to-use, fun AI integrations. Launched a beta in 2022, and opened up more widely in March 2023.• Led backend service architecture and development with a small team.• Built services primarily in Rust and Go, deployed to a Kubernetes cluster initially hosted in AWS, before migrating to Azure.• Used redis as a primary data store and message buffer, and MySQL for a small number of use cases.• Built integrations with OpenAI's GPT completions API, and Anthropic's Claude API, to allow our own assistant and user-created bots to participate in group chats with our users.• Built a shared encryption library in C, implementing key and session management for double ratchet encryption. Integrated this library with both our Android (Kotlin) and iOS (Swift) clients.• Built and assisted with a number of architectural decisions in the iOS and Android codebases.

    Launched a public conversation product focused on civility and community. Grew an engineering team to build and scale the product.• Joined as the second non-founder employee, just as an initial prototype had been launched to a few dozen friends and family.• Recruited and hired a team of 6 engineers to build and scale the product.• Built a python backend, and a number of microservices in Go. All of these were deployed as a series of Kubernetes clusters on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).• Built a distributed cache of serialized python objects which was automatically replicated onto each pod of our python service deployment.• Designed and built several iterations of a personalized feed ranking system and topic recommendation system.• Designed a model abstraction inspired in part by React Relay for our native iOS client to be able to efficiently handle iterative state updates, and to allow the server to substantially decrease payload sizes serialized to the client.• Managed the transition from a 100% onsite team, to a remote team during the COVID pandemic.• Shut down the product in June 2022.
