Patience (Patti) Fleer as a charter member violinist of Fontbonne University’s Suzuki program, under the tutelage of Sister Jane Elizabeth, began her music education at the age of 5 years. She studied violin with Kakitsu Sensei in Gifu, Japan and performed with the NHK Television Youth Orchestra in Nagoya, Japan from 1968-1972. Patti attended the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and studied violin with St. Louis Symphony member, Miran Viher, from 1972-1977. Mrs. Fleer received her Bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, where she studied violin with John Kendall and Kent Perry and voice with Sarah Turner. In 1982 Mrs. Fleer earned her M.M. at Webster University with a degree in vocal pedagogy and performance studying with Carol Gaspar. The summer of 1981 Patti received a certificate in vocal performance working with Richard Miller and Eric Werbe at the Mozarteum Conservatory of Music in Salzburg, Austria. She taught vocal music at St. Clair R-13 school district from 1982-1985. She was the adjunct music instructor and choral director at East Central College, Union Missouri from 1988-1993. While there she founded the East Central Community Orchestra. Since 1985 Patti has maintained a private studio of violin students in Washington, Missouri. In 1994 Patti joined the music faculty in the Rockwood School District located in St. Louis County. She is the Music Department Chair and Orchestra Director at Eureka High School. Mrs. Fleer co-founded and co-directs the Rockwood Intermediate Honors Orchestra. This group of talented students performed at the MMEA convention in 2003 and 2007.Patti Fleer is a member of MMEA and MoASTA. She has served as MoASTA President and MMEA Orchestra Vice President. Mrs. Fleer was named 2011 Missouri Music Educator of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations. Patti serves as a MSHSAA judges at small and large music festivals Mrs. Fleer lives in Washington, Missouri with her husband.
