At ASDF, our mission is to encourage, promote, support, and fund positive educational experiences for students in the Allentown School District. The Foundation was established in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational foundation. ASDF is a forward-thinking charity that raises funds and supplements programming to increase educational opportunities in many academic areas while helping the school district through conduit funding to support fundamental needs. ASDF has grown to reflect a balance sheet reaching $1M with a vision to annually achieve $4-5M in support of Allentown School District's students. ASD's student demographic is comprised of approximately two-thirds of whom come from homes where English is not the first language spoken and where nearly 90% of households in the City are classified as low-income. The ASDF manages a Volunteer Literacy program for kindergarten and first grade, and oversees the graduating senior scholarship program awarding about $75,000 per year. The Foundation raises the funds and provides programmatic support for initiatives in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM), the performing arts, civic education and literacy. Teacher Innovation Grants (TIG) are funded each fall to inspire teachers and reward excellence. Several ASDF programs grew from TIG projects. The strategic plan adopted in 2023 also calls for expansion in workforce development in alignment with ASD's work in that area. The ASDF Executive Director is responsible for implementing the Foundation's mission, strategic goals, and sharing the Foundation's vision and core values with the community large. The Senior Manager of Development is a member of the Center’s Leadership team ensuring interdepartmental collaboration with programs, finance, operations, and administration. Based on a thorough understanding of grassroots fundraising, annual giving, grants management, corporate sponsorship, corporate and foundation relations, capital fundraising and donor stewardship, this position is responsible for overseeing fundraising operations and ensuring developmental growth in line with professional fundraising standards, audit requirements, grant requirements, and organizational policies.

This is a preceptor collaboration with the Liberty University School of Health Science Department of Public and Community Health by mentoring one of their active military practicum students seeking their MHP. The collaboration utilizes the preceptors expertise and mentorship to guide the practicum student in the field of public health and functions as a crucial role in the development of the student’s knowledge, skills, and dispositions in health professions. The preceptor mentors the practicum student as they complete practical experience of 120 hours minimum in the public health field of their choice and it is required in conjunction with the course provided by Liberty University. Together, the student and preceptor develop SMART objectives (in this case the art of grant work in the public health and veteran populations as well as other objectives) and identify appropriate activities aligned with the foundational competencies in public health to present deliverables appropriate for a project paper that captures their experience impacting a population. This is the preparation and practice needed for their future employment and degree completion.
