About Patti Temple Rocks
I’ve been writing for a living for 40+ years, why is the “About” section on Linked In so hard to write? Maybe because it really is a profound question. What am I About? Well…in many ways, I think we are all “about” the things we have done and accomplished. So, I will start there, after four decades in the world of marketing and communications, I’ve seen and done a lot. I’ve had leadership roles in agencies and on the client side. I have managed crises, directed strategy, launched products, invented brands and re-invented brands, grown market share, made money for my bosses, built a creative department from scratch, changed employee culture, won a bunch of awards – and what I am most proud of is that I managed, mentored, and inspired hundreds of people along the way. And, since that first job in 1981, I have learned more than I could have ever dreamed possible, had a ton of fun along the way and collected a treasure trove of stories and experiences. The above is summary of what I have done, but what am I about? Like all humans, I have evolved, so what is it that I am about now? I am an author, speaker and obsessed with writing and talking about making sure that age inclusivity is on every company’s D, E & I agenda and that everyone (yes everyone) gets to end their career when they want to – not when ageist stereotypes say they should. As a so-called “older worker” myself, I have learned and done so much, and it simply makes no sense that all that experience and wisdom would be packed away. I am completely sure, and unabashedly proud to say that I am not done. My passion is to keep going – to keep talking about ageism and to sharing my wisdom and experience. That is what I am “about.”

After leading the successful IPG pitch to become Dow’s Agency of Record, I was recruited by Dow to become vice president of global public affairs where I led Dow’s branding and reputation initiatives and managed a global function of over 300 professionals in 28 countries. I was the principle architect of Dow’s “Human Element” campaign, a communications program to rebrand the company and improve its reputation. The multidisciplinary campaign won multiple awards including the coveted Gold Effie and was responsible for lifting Dow’s awareness and reputation by the most significant margin ever. "Protecting the Brand" proved to be equally important during my tenure as I managed Public Affairs through several significant business crises.
