The Vexcel Data Program is a leading aerial imagery and geospatial data provider. My role in technical pre-sales involved carrying out technical discovery and lead qualification, product demonstrations, and solution engineering to demonstrate how Vexcel's imagery and elevation products could create value for our customers in a range of industry verticals including insurance, telecommunications, utilities, consumer mapping, and HD maps.

After 5 years of jumping from roles as a network optimization consultant, to data science to customer experience and then product management - all in the telco space - I'm taking some time off to reassess and get more depth in what interests me most. Some areas I'm going to be delving into more are:- web technologies (React, AWS AppSync, and Graphql)- GIS technologies (Deck.gl and Nebula.gl) and geospatial data science- interaction design, particularly in the UX of AI and automationI'm open to new opportunities, in particular within a mapping or geospatial context, and will be ready to start any new positions in February 2021.

As Product Manager, my role involved formulating and iterating on the product strategy and working with teams across the company to see that strategy implemented. In addition to driving the product strategy, I was heavily involved in product design and conducted extensive customer research to inform both the product strategy and product design.To do this, I conducted regular pre-market and in-market research. This research involved online video and in-person interview and observation studies to collect data on customer needs, and to better understand existing mental models. In addition to dedicated customer research, I worked with customer support, sales, and marketing teams to learn about the needs of customers from these teams who interact closely with customers on a day to day basis.

It was my role to ensure that our customers are getting the maximum amount of value from our core product, FOND, as well as associated services. I worked within the Product Management team to set out a map of potential user journeys that different types of users may take. I also worked with the Software Development and Design Services teams to help improve each step of the journey that users were taking. My goal was simply to have a happy customer base who can create more fiber optic network designs in less time and at a lower cost. Specific tasks included:- customer interviews to gather market feedback and identify gaps in the overall customer experience - provide customer support personally, as well as by coordinating a growing team of customer support staff- continue to provide technical and domain insight to the product management team to set overall product strategy- support technical pre-sales- create prototypes of new solutions because I'm a programmer at heart and no one can take away my development environment

While the title was 'Data Scientist', my role encompassed a range of other tasks. Most of the Data Scientist tasks involved the manipulation, cleaning, assessing and storage of data. My role involved:- designing, prototyping and assisting with implementing a system for storing geospatial data that could give our customers fast access to data within a web application (Python backend, JS React + Mapbox front end, AWS infrastructure)- design, prototype and implement a system for easily configuring custom reports for customers to use to assess the cost to build their fiber networks, reducing the need for development which would usually be required for custom reports- assessing various open and commercial data sources for address data in the USA- general development tasks like peer review, testing and implementing minor features in Python and JS- providing customer support- managing the on-boarding of customers during the beta release of our software- providing input to the product manager to inform the priorities of the product roadmap- assisting sales and marketing by providing technical and domain advice to assist with their campaigns

Carrying out phone interviewers as part of the Living in Australia longitudinal study, as well as providing support to the field interviewers from the home office.

As part of the UROP program, my role was to use molecular dynamic simulations to support NMR studies of Malarial surface antigen proteins. This involved setting up, running, and debugging long run time simulations. Analysis of the simulations was done using a suite of professional and academic software.
