I am a research scientist with nearly 20 years experience. My research focuses predominantly in the key biomedical research areas of biomarker discovery and stem cell research. I recently founded the Centre for Biomarker Research (CeBioR) at the University of Huddersfield, which encompasses several PIs and a multi-disciplinary team of over 50 research staff and students including biomedical scientists, clinical & health researchers, pharmacologists, geneticists, biochemists, forensic scientists, analytical & medicinal chemists, bioinformaticians and statisticians, ensuring a high level of innovation and collaboration who deliver excellence in research. Research in the centre looks to identify molecules, whether they are metabolites, genetic variants, proteins or RNA and evaluates their usage as indicators of disease state or processes and encompasses several disease/conditions e.g. neurological, neurodegeneration, psychiatric and cancer.Specialties: Embryonic stem and iPS cell culture and differentiation, Immunocytochemistry, Microarray and Proteomic analysis, PCR, quantitative PCR, Animal Experimental Techniques and Brain dissection, TaqMan genotyping, ARMS and DHPLC assays, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, reporter gene assays, confocal microscopy, recombinant protein expression, western analysis and electrophoretic mobility shift assays EMSAs, FPLC & HPLC.
