Provided leadership in data management and served as both the project leader and data architect for critical migration initiatives to AWS. Defined and implemented strategies and methodologies around managing data in AWS using technologies such as Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service), Amazon S3 Lifecycle, AWS Key Management Service, AWS Glue, and Amazon CloudWatch. Developed and supervised the implementation of key data ingestion processes, resulting in a projected cost reduction of $200,000 annually. Designed, developed, and oversaw the maintenance of various operational and analytical databases both on-premises and in the Cloud.

Designed, developed and support a SQL Server operational database, and supporting ETL processes, that in real-time concurrently receives and processes POS order related XML messages from over 31,000 restaurants worldwide. Data is made available for ingestion into the EDW within 10 minutes. Processes normally handle 160 transactions a second, which rise to 300 transactions a second during peak periods of operation. The database normally contains over 100 million order transactions. With such high volumes of data, the success of this database system is primarily based upon increasing the number of concurrency batch processes that can execute in parallel, while controlling database locking to the point of eliminating deadlocks.Leader of the AWS Redshift team, working alongside the Azure Data Warehouse team, in the proof of concept evaluation of both offerings in order to determine the best platform to adopt for migration of our Teradata EDW. Technologies such as S3, Kinesis Firehose, Glue, Athena, and Redshift where utilized using 30 billion rows of data. Designed and developed an automated cloud ETL process that extracts source data into CSV files, and then uploads them into S3 using the AWS CLI. Data is then inserted into Redshift from S3 using the copy command.Decreased ETL development time by about 75% through the design, development and adoption of different ETL templates. Templates incorporated various best practices and ETL patterns around CDC, error handling, logging, data lineage, staging and SCD for the purpose of ingesting both historical and incremental data into the EDW. As the SME, I provided leadership in their use and implementation.Designed and led the development and implementation of a standardized method of reconciliation between source systems and their corresponding staging and data mart tables. This has had a cost savings benefit of up to 90% in terms of setting up new reconciliation processes in the EDW.

Co-managed the Data Management team in the design and development of a brand new Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) encompassing a complete 360o view of the business from membership acquisition and experience to post-cancellation. Improvements in data integrity, integration, availability, and overall quality as compared to the original data warehouse allowed the EDW to support several advanced analytical applications.Architected and developed multiple Analysis Services catalogs which encompassed integrated data from multiple processes spanning Marketing, Product, Finance and Accounting, allowing the business to understand the implications of decisions made in one area as compared to the effects in another. Coordinated with the business users in the design and development of over 30 centralized analytical dimensions and hierarchies along with some 200+ calculated business metrics for the enterprise at large ensuring logical analysis of the data and “one version of the truth”.Designed and developed architectures and Business Intelligence models for next generation, near real-time sales dashboards that employed Statistical Process Controls to help quickly identify both positive and negative fluctuations in membership acquisition flows based upon Marketing optimizations and/or changes in both the internal or external environments.

Spearheaded a team of 10 developers, in the reconstruction and integration of several legacy platforms utilizing .Net and a Service Oriented Architecture.Managed a team in the design, development, and implementation of a custom .Net interface to an email campaign management system resulting in new functionality that focused on automation, error handling, logging, and reporting.Responsible for designing, developing, and implementing (across multiple teams) a custom code automation tool that “automatically” created data layer stored procedures along with the corresponding .Net classes resulting in a productivity savings averaging 1,000 lines of code. Data governance techniques were enforced at the enterprise level due to the implementation of best practices and company standards in the tool’s output.

Designed and developed an enterprise level .Net web application in order to provide automated workflow and business rule adherence for a 15 step request and approval process concerning critical data elements used for reporting. This application enabled an overall time savings of approximately 30 hours per week via the elimination of a manual process.Designed and developed, as a member of a team, the company’s first profitability data mart and subsequent Analysis Services cubes, Reporting Services reporting, Excel pivot tables, and ProClarity briefing books, giving the business new insight into P&L along with the ability to answer difficult questions. Designed and implemented a set of standardized Reporting Services templates and a methodology governing report development across the organization.

Successfully managed the integration of Reporting Services into an existing Business Intelligence product as part of Microsoft's SQL Server beta testing program. Reported directly to one of Microsoft’s Product Managers and worked with the Reporting Services development team both onsite in Redmond, WA and remotely.Successfully completed Enterprise Application Testing with VeraTest, which qualified the company to become one of Microsoft’s 14 original Analytical Applications Partners.
