I have delivered in many roles, ranging from counsellor/group-worker, to managing both Primary and Secondary programmes, working with adults in early recovery from drink/drugs. Often the therapeutic groups and one to ones would also work with underlying issues, such as PTSD, childhood abuse, gambling, sex, shopping addictions, family and relationship traumas, loss, bereavement, anger, and mental health issues, that served to underpin the use of mood altering substances.Currently as Secondary unit manager, my duties and responsibilities lie in the development and management of a living skills programme that will serve to enhance client lifestyle choices, for example, I lead and drive workshops for external agencies to educate them about addiction, and to lead a team in providing relevant services to individuals during daily stages of their recovery process. I am responsible for providing clients with a dynamic and diverse programme, implementing a mix of eclectic styles and theories to enhance the clients’ objective experiences of their treatment, drawing on psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioural, Gestalt, person Centred and existential principles and models. Within these responsibilities, I must also prepare weekly timetables, prioritise individual needs, and am responsible for ensuring that customs, cultures, individuality, values, sexuality and spiritual beliefs are actively respected and supported.• Show less
