ICE started in 2000 and had rapidly grown a network of now 23 regulated exchanges and commodity marketplaces. ICE is the exchange for more than half of global oil contracts. I was a Smalltalk developer (GemStone/S and VisualWorks) that enhanced core software through rapidly evolving market needs. I performed most of the performance tuning work and achieved at least 95% time reductions in every refactoring. I developed the tools used for code management and deployment. I developed and taught language extensions that achieved a broad 80% performance improvement in all server actions while equally expanding limits. I'm proud to have been an instrumental part of ICE development through the formative years.

Doxcelerate provides a tool for collaborative document authoring through web browsers, primarily used in legislative context. Some of the implementation technologies were GemStone/S (80%), JSP (15%), GB/J (5%). I was responsible for administrative tasks involving database garbage collection, backup, migration, and code maintenance. Development activities involved application code, VBScript, and shell scripts tailored for a high security installation.

I worked in Loss Management Application Development on a three-tier application involving GemStone/S, Oracle, and VisualAge Smalltalk. The software was used to avoid fraud and assist in loss recovery. I was relied on to find ways ways to address the complex technical challenges. My projects were always delivered within my time estimates. I detected and fixed numerous application bugs before they could cause harm. I was instrumental in all development activities for this application.

I was primary maintainer and developer for the GemStone/S GemBuilder for Smalltalk (GBS) product. I'd achieved four major product releases and about sixty incremental releases. I'd established Agile Development and Continuous Integration before such processes became industry ideals. I refined code to a common core that was unit tested with VisualAge Smalltalk and VisualWorks on five platforms (AIX, HPUX, Linux, Solaris, and Windows). I was able to reduce the release cycle to from months to hours while ensuring release integrity.

I mentored four junior Smalltalk developers for Sprint on a project that use GemStone/S, Versant, and ENVY. I promoted changes to reuse code and enhance group productivity through code management. I was a Lead Developer for a product notification distribution application for Lucent telecommunications using GemStone/S, VisualWorks, and ENVY. I developed a framework for Lucent that existing application code was to be converted to use.

Mentor of a Junior Smalltalk programmer for Cargill using Visual Smalltalk (VSE) and PVCS. Participated in development of software to design irrigation sprinkler systems for Valmont using VisualAge, Versant, ENVY, and WindowBuilder Pro. Lead an effort to port a Sprint trouble ticket system from Digitalk/V to IBM VisualAge. Mentoring and port was was completed ahead of schedule. Participated in development of a credit life insurance application for CUNA implemented with VisualAge, DB/2, ENVY, and HTML.

We used VAST as it evolved from ENVY/400 to IBMST to VisualAge. We created a rich meta-model based application to add an object interface to legacy AS/400 application. I worked on both framework and application development. We effectively grew our own object database to store the meta definitions. Profiling and tuning was a major emphasis as most logic was from loaded objects rather than compiled code. Company was formerly known as Software 2000.
