We administered both Small Self Administered Pension Schemes (SSAS) and Occupational Pension Schemes (OPS) as part of the Pension portfolio. I was responsible for administering four of the OPS's and also working alongside one of the Pension Consultants to administer approximately 100 SSAS schemes. Our main focus was looking after the existing client base and also to bring in new business, whether it be new SSAS set ups or takeovers of existing schemes. With existing schemes we looked to assist clients on regulated investments, help with property purchases, process sponsoring employer loan backs etc. In regulatory terms we also reported to HMRC and The Pensions Regulator along with day to day requirements. With new or takeover schemes we processed the application to initiate the transfer, registered new schemes with HMRC, setting up the scheme bank account and dealt with any new or existing investment. In addition to administering the pension schemes I also looked after the Company Payroll which included the staff and processing PAYE requirements for the pension schemes. The PAYE for the schemes was a mixture of Pension Commencement Lump Sum (PCLS) payments and Flexi-Access payments. All PAYE payments were processed through the SAGE software system. I also have an AAT Accountancy qualification which I feel strengthens the skills required for pension calculations and also financial aspects of pensions administration. In addition to this I also possess a payroll qualification and currently carry out benefit payments to members within the schemes and also look after the company payroll to staff. Show less

This involved contacting both the client and also the pension provider once the request had been issued. Adaptability was the key here as the schemes had different processes and it was my job to understand these to reduce the amount of time it took for the transfer to take place. The remaining schemes we undertake the full Section 270 Administration service, which looked after the customer journey from the opening of the policy through to retirement. I have a strong knowledge of the pension administration industry, having developed workflow processes and also keep myself up to date with regular updates from the Pensions Regulator.Previously I have also undertaken some work with Auto Enrolment pensions, after working on a short term project which was targeted at improving the administration of an Auto Enrolment scheme.Recently we have started working closely with a specialist Small Self Administered Scheme (SSAS) company and I looked to develop my understanding of these schemes. I will be looking to improve my skills in loan backs, purchasing of commercial property along with preference shares and integrate myself into the operation. My duties outside of the schemes included liaising with the Trustees and also scheme bank account reconciliation. This involved analysing customer’s documentation and after looking at their income and expenditure I would make a recommendation to the manager before a decision was given. After a Pay Day Loan company became part of the group, I also was asked to take some involvement in this using the skills I had learned in the unsecured lending field. This role had mirrored similarities of the unsecured lending, however the process was a lot more automated as the requirement was for short term lending. This did again though have an element of involvement with the client and also decision making on final assessment. Show less
