My main area of expertise includes the design and construction of chemical processes implementing theuse of dangerous chemicals which fall under the purview of OHSA 1910.119, Process Safety Management(PSM). In addition to experience with the requirements of PSM, some specific areas of expertise haveinvolved combustible dusts, pnuematic conveying, hydraulic modeling, the handling and use offlammable and combustible liquids, pressure relief design, and equipment specifications.

Senior Process EngineerJacobs Jun 2021 - PresentDallas, Tx, UsLead area process engineer for multiple projects and confidential clients in semiconductor manufacturing and research. One project was leading the process design of a process utility building (PUB) supporting new semiconductor FABs. This area, sized to support multiple FABs, included solvent waste storage and transfer operations, several turn-key vendor provided waste-water treatment systems, and storage and distribution of waste water treatment chemicals to service treatment systems in the PUB and in the FAB. For another project I was gas area lead for a new research lab to develop and test tools used for semiconductor manufacturing. The lab required bulk gases as well as specialty gases from both y-cylinders and standard gas cylinders. The project gas scope included storage, pressure control & filtration, purification, and distribution throughout the sub-lab spaces. -
Project ManagerSi Group Nov 2020 - Jun 2021The Woodlands, Texas, UsShort term contract with SI Group in Orangeburg, SC to manage the execution of capital projects. One project involved the installation of two new dust collectors to replace inadequately sized units to better manage the hazards of combustible dust build-up from drying and packaging operations. Other projects were centered around the installation of a new Delta V Safety Instrumented System (SIS). New Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF’s) are to be added to the new SIS for processes that require additional independent protection layers as determined by LOPA. Such processes included the handling and processing of hexane, propylene oxide, and hydrogen cyanide. -
Independent ConsultantIndependent Contractor May 2020 - Jul 2020Remote, UsI have signed a short term contract with Transform Materials, LLC in Riviera Beach, FL to assist with the commissioning and start-up of their 50 kW acetylene pilot plant, to assist with the creation of standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for the pilot unit, and to consult on the design and operability of their 100 kW demonstration plant. -
Project ManagerXytel Corporation Aug 2019 - Apr 2020I oversaw two separate projects to build and deliver multiple pilot plant test units. One of the projects involved feeding 14 small reactors with air, nitrogen, ethylene, and ammonia to experiment with different reaction stoichiometry. The other project produced and purified a mix of acetylene and hydrogen from natural gas. Work involved specifying and ordering all equipment, instruments, and valves and overseeing the construction and testing of the units prior to shipping to the client sites. During the course of the projects, I updated and maintained documentation such as P&ID's, BOM's, Schedules, Budgets as well as checking and issuing documents from other disciplines such as mechanical construction drawings for ASME vessels. I personally worked extensively with many of the vendors during the procurement phase to ensure that we communicated the proper specifications for the equipment and to secure the best possible pricing where multiple vendors could supply the same items. I also worked closely with the clients during weekly update meetings where progress, setbacks, and expectations were discussed.

Lead Process EngineerJacobs Oct 2010 - Aug 2019Dallas, Tx, UsI began working at CH2M Hill which was absorbed by Jacobs in January 2018. I began as a process engineer and eventually became a process discipline lead engineer. Over the course of my work there, I worked in multiple industries including specialty chemicals, biofuels, consumer products, food and beverage, and advanced facilities. Clients included Amyris Biotechnologies, Ashland Chemical, BASF, GE Aviation, JM Smucker, Procter & Gamble, and Solvay Specialty Polymers. In each of these projects most of the activity revolved around updating P&ID's and performing or checking sizing calculations for PSV's, rupture disks, explosion vents, pumps, blowers, pipes, heat exchangers, vessels, filters, etc for the purpose of writing specifications for purchasing equipment. I also evaluated, reviewed, and marked up vendor submittal documentation.During my tenure there, I developed expertise in solids handling operations and mitigation of combustible dust hazards. Additionally, I became well versed in the sizing and selection of pressure relief devices, rupture disks, and explosion vents. I also worked extensively using hydraulic modeling software packages AFT Arrow and Fathom. -
Project ManagerBasf Sep 2007 - Sep 2010Ludwigshafen, DeResponsibilities included implementation of capital projects related to the safe handling andreaction of ethylene and propylene oxide for surfactant production in a batch plant. Objectivesfocused on process safety improvements, cycle time reductions, and process optimization. Frontend work required developing project scope, safety reviews, and cost estimates for projects upto $5M. Project implementation involved monitoring project spending and schedules, construction oversight, coordinating contractor work load and priorities, and project reporting.Due to PSM requirements, heavy emphasis was placed on accurate documentation includingP&IDs, loop diagrams, procedures, PMs, calculations, process hazard analysis, and managementof change. I oversaw improving and coordinating the contractor safety program. -
Process EngineerRti International May 2003 - Sep 2007Research Triangle Park, Nc, UsResearch was done primarily through contracts from the U.S. Department of Energy relating topollutant free energy production from coal and biomass gasification as well as carbon dioxidecapture from coal and natural gas combustion. Clean coal and renewable energy technologieswere the major focus of the projects. Responsibilities included process design, equipmentspecification and procurement, and oversight of construction of bench and pilot scale chemicalprocesses. Post-construction activities included troubleshooting and testing of equipment priorto relocation to field test sites for technology demonstrations.
