Supporting the European Health and Safety Manager in providing health, safety and environmental support within the refractory construction installation and refractory maintenance services throughout the UK and Europe. Developing and sharing best practices to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement of health safety and environmental systems, procedures and behavioural practices in all European customer locations.

Corus Teesside

Reporting to the Account Manager, runs the day to day repair, maintenance and installation of refractory materials activities with a team of 60 people providing 24 hour cover 7 days a week to a Corus Steelworks, Teesside site with a turnover of 3.5 million pounds a year. Deals with the team and individuals’ needs that include training requirements, quality reviews and human resources matters. Be fully conversant with the Health, Safety and Environmental system and actively promote the use of the system at all levels throughout the site. In particular writing and reviewing safe working procedures, carrying out risk assessments and safety audits, COSHH data as well as adhering to provision and use of work equipment regulations and lifting operation and lifting equipment regulations. Liases directly with the Corus customer to deliver high performance levels and be the link with regulations, health & safety, contract negotiations. Prepares invoices and arranges outside contracts to provide services for the operations. Manages all work to agreed budgets and key performance indicators to deliver expected profitabilityMain achievements include: • Successful management of challenging contracts.• Achieved on time and within budget targets.• Health, Safety and Environment Audits to corporate standards and implementation of safety plans toe reduce lost time accidents.• Maintained multi-departmental interaction and communication with internal and external customers ensuring smooth running of contract.• Ensuring all statuary training and all HR issues are maintained within the workforce.

Ran day-to-day activities at Vesuvius of a repair facility including maintenance repair of machinery to ISO standards. Complied with health & safety legislation and drove continuous improvement onsite to achieve improved safe production targets. Organised onsite and outside maintenance teams to minimise downtime. Ordered materials and equipment and maintained adherence to provision and use of work equipment regulations and lifting operation and lifting equipment regulations conducted operational, research and development on all refractory materials used on Teesside Steel plant.Main achievements included: • Successful management of continuous improvement of products to maintain value in use.• Conducted safety audits to ensure compliance and improve workplace area. • Achieved the targets against budgets.• Dealing with customer requirements in the account manager absence.

Skelton

Texon manufactured non-woven shoe materials at Skelton with 200 employees and an annual turnover of £20 million. Organised and implemented the maintenance requirements to give 24 hour support seven days a week to the production site using a multi - skilled team of engineers. Provided hands on support and health & safety guidance to ensure safe working procedures were followed. Ensured all statuary regulations were followed and negotiated all outside contracts to allow the smooth running of the production area. Sourced, ordered and organised the onsite stores to provide spares availability for the uptime of plant equipment. Liaised with the production team to achieve production goals in reducing downtime. Deal with all staff needs and requirements i.e. training, people issues, etc
