My research interests focus on tropical-temperate estuarine and freshwater fish ecology, and more particularly, habitat and hydrological requirements of native fishes. My research experience has addressed the role of aquatic habitats in structuring fish communities and the effect of threatening processes on fish populations including alterations to natural hydrological regimes, increased salinity and degradation of structural in-stream habitats. My pervious research has had particular focus on fish ecology of freshwater ecosystems ranging from wetlands, lowland rivers, tropical rivers and alpine streams. Throughout my research, I have maintained an interested in both adult and larval/juvenile stage ecology. More recently, my research interests have included similar ecological investigations in estuarine systems. In 2008 I completed my PhD research on environmental water requirements of estuaries, undertaken on the south coast of Western Australia and addressing environmental influence on early life history stages with a particular emphasis on relationships between the dynamics of freshwater inputs and estuarine hydrodynamics and larval fish assemblages. My current research includes investigations of environmental influence on both freshwater and estuarine fish assemblages.
