Devoted to improving patient outcomes and health care processes by providing organizations with expertise on continuous improvement, lean design, technology use, and research. Projects encompass a wide range of topics from improving physician workflow to simplifying medical records management. Current projects include patient flow, patient equipment procurement improvement, and wearable devices for patient therapy. Prior activities include nurse communication, physician use of technology, surgery process flow, orthotics streamlining, and translation services scheduling. We collaborate with staffs throughout the organization including admin, physicians, nurses, technicians, clerical staff, and IT. The tools of lean design, applied research, evidence-based-practice, ergonomics and statistics are employed to improve performance and patient outcomes.

Leading the Center for Healthcare and Technology, where our mission is to improve the patient experience through enhancements in healthcare technology and processes. Sample projects include: evaluated the SBAR communications protocol in case conferences and nurse hand-offs; improved the diagnostic exam process of physicians; applied lean design to medication preparation, nurse station design, and technology usage in a leukemia unit; streamlined medical records management; identified next generation solutions for point-of-care charting; and improved information and patient flow at a primary care practice.

Led product development and marketing for a $90 million office furniture manufacturer. During tenure, developed and launched nine products, launched ten imported products in North America, launched a brand of German-manufactured product under the Vecta brand, and instituted the practice of lean design/manufacturing principles in product development.

Led groups in research, marketing and business development. Co-inventor of several concepts, led exploration of a variety of new markets, developed new research protocols and received eight patents.

Provided human factors expertise and research in the design and development department.

Worked in the automotive safety office on projects related to driver behavior, instrument design, and seat belt use.
