20 years in the building trade as a carpenter has given my life skills and knowledge of a real world, understanding people and customers is key to an effective business. I’m a on-call firefighter with 31 years service, I’ve been watch manager for 19 years managing a single pump station with a team of 12. Completing my A1 assessors qualification as part of on-call development has given me valued skills that enables understanding and knowledge of learning tools across all areas of my work. 13 years full time with West Midlands starting as firefighter at Ladywood for 5 years progression to crew commander for 2 years on a busy city station.Watch commander progression to Dudley for 7 years, managing a team of 5 within a core + late shift system. Gained my NEBOSH qualification in Health and safety, this progression supports my risk assessments and delivery of safety both operational and department based. Incident command station based assessor for 4 years has given me greater command skills to deliver operationally while supporting development and assessment of others. Above all family is important to me, 3 grown up children and 3 grandchildren are my world, with family I have everything I need. People- always treat everyone with respect, I’m always happy as life is to short, being positive gives me the motivation to do a great job and makes a happy and motivated team. Listening- this is an area I can do well, effective listening makes me the best person I can be to help others.
