Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) requires an understanding of the software development cycle, and how code goes from the hands of the developer, is tested, and ultimately deployed into production. This is typically referred to as CI/CD, or Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment. The role of the SRE is to assist in the automation of this pipeline, from start to finish, attempting to remove any bottlenecks wherever possible, and automate any daily repetitive tasks. Once code has been deployed into production, it then becomes the role of the SRE to automate the task of gathering metrics from the system and services running on it, and build alerts which contact the appropriate individuals when an event occurs.At SupplyPike much of my role included the tasks described above. I helped install, configure, and administer their Kubernetes clusters, which included managing their AWS infrastructure as code using Terraform. I also helped build, and manage their software deployment pipelines. Once the applications were deployed I would gather metrics, and build alerts for any issues that might occur. If an alert did occur then I would help the developers debug and diagnose the issues. In addition to that, I would automate any daily repetitive tasks, as needed.

I helped develop and maintain their core software, which was a client-server application written in C# to manage electronic medical records in a clinical setting. This included the back-end web services and databases required for the software to function, the secure transfer of medical records in accordance with HIPAA regulations, and integrating with third-party APIs for prescribing medications and calculating clinical quality measures.

I worked for the College of Engineering in their Computer Science and Computer Engineering department as a Linux server administrator. My primary duties were to install, configure, and administer the Linux servers for the department, but also included the same for any Windows PCs in the student labs. We utilized many automated tools to assist us in our daily routine, such as imaging the PCs in the student labs, or monitoring the health of the servers.

While attending the University of Arkansas I was awarded a work-study at the university library, and worked as a librarian for a year. My primary duties included checking books in and out, helping patrons find books they wanted, organizing books on the shelves, and assisting patrons with research.

I was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY for four years as an Infantryman in the U.S. Army, and was deployed to Iraq in 2003 for a year. I conducted numerous military operations, training exercises, and drills. During my time in the Army I was fortunate enough to obtain my Expert Infantryman Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
