SunWorks Project | April 2018 - July 2022The SunWorks project was the implementation of Sun Life's new cloud hosted (AWS) integrated Disability Claims & Absence Management solution. This FINEOS solution is a SaaS offering with Sun Life partnering with FINEOS under a joint development arrangement.My responsibility as technical lead on the 'Financials' data stream was to: • Extract financial data from the FINEOS application database (AWS RDS Oracle) using the FINEOS Cloud Data Export Tool.• Transform and load that data from Amazon S3 into Sun Life's SQL Server financial operational data store.• Produce and transmit data feeds to downstream financial systems including IFRS 4 & IFRS 17 General Ledger, Bottomline WebSeries Cheque and EFT processing, Papyrus document output & Sovos Taxport• Create/maintain associated financial reportsThis role required:• Advanced knowledge of SQL, database, and data warehouse design• Develop and execute test plans including regression testing• Create technical documents for ETL processes• Data modelling, querying and manipulation of large data sets• Gathering business requirements for reports and data loads• Problem/ root cause analysis and resolutionData Factory Project | Feb 2017 - April 2018The Data Factory project had the goal of making legacy Assurant Employee Benefits (AEB) data available to legacy Sun Life (SLF) applications and vice versa in order to support the integration of AEB into SLF following the acquisition of AEB by SLF in 2016.My primary function was to use the Denodo Platform to provide data virtualization solutions to be consumed by internal clients via JDBC connection and RESTful web services (JSON). Data Virtualization gave Sun Life the ability to provide real-time data integration across heterogeneous database systems.My role on this project also involved designing, developing and deploying solutions using the Microsoft BI stack, SAP Crystal Reports, SAP BusinessObjects & Logi Analytics.

Under the umbrella of Guggenheim Partners I transferred to SE2 to complete the Delaware Life conversion. As part of the Product & Actuarial Services team, I worked on the continued configuration of the FAST 8x platform.One of my personal highlights of my time with SE2 was entering the first ever SE2 Hackathon for employees, where my team was awarded 2nd Place for an Elastic (ELK) Stack based project.

IT Services - Policy AdminI transferred to Delaware Life as part of the Guggenheim acquisition of the Sun Life annuities block of business. Working with our partners in SE2 and FAST Technology, I was part of a multi-company Agile (Scrum) team who successfully migrated/converted 300,000+ Annuity policies from 4 separate Delaware Life legacy administration systems (VA Mainframe, Trimark Transcend, GA Mainframe, NaviSys LifeCAD) onto the FAST 8x platform.This role involved: • Extraction of data from source systems using mainframe technologies.• Developing and applying expertise in SE2 conversion methodologies.• Data Integration/ETL in a Microsoft SQL Server/SSIS/.NET environment.• Consulting/Advising with FAST during the development of their solution.

Variable Annuities Product DevelopmentI was involved in the design and implementation of new product solutions for both the Domestic US and International Annuity Business.While working with the Product Development team, I designed and developed a rules-based living benefit rider (LBR) processing system. This enabled The Business to significantly reduce their time to market on new LBR releases, while simultaneously reducing the IT cost associated with those releases by reducing development and testing overheads.

During an extended period of travel throughout South East Asia, Australia, South Pacific & The Americas, I worked for American Express in Sydney within their Accounts Payable and Global Procurement departments.

Transferring to the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) as part of the NatWest/RBS merger, I permanently relocated to London where I worked on the migration of NatWest systems into the RBS system.

Joining NatWest in Dublin as part of a graduate recruitment program, I was immediately brought to London for 4 months of IBM mainframe training, specifically in Structured Program Design, ISPF, JCL, Assembler, PL/I & SDLC. On returning to Dublin, I joined the Core Systems Re-Engineering team within Retail Information Systems. This role involved analysis, development, testing and implementation within the “BOLP” batch processing system.The main project I worked on during this time was 'Chequebook Re-Engineering'. On this project we moved the chequebook specific processing (auto re-ordering of books, manual ordering, branch rationalisation triggered ordering) from the bank's main nightly batch cycle to a stand alone chequebook cycle.
