I lead two business units within Scottish Futures Trust including:-Infrastructure Technology workstream supports the public sector implement value adding technology and information management processes to improve the whole life performance of public sector infrastructure. The team supports the ambition to deliver a digital estate for the public sector to improve performance for the benefit of the environment, users and society. Improving Project Delivery workstream provides a centre of expertise to improve how capital projects are delivered by public sector clients. Through enhanced public sector demand in project delivery, this will support improved outcomes for the construction industry as a key part of Scotland’s economy, and deliver improved infrastructure that contributes to the delivery of resilient, sustainable places, and an inclusive net zero carbon economy.

I led the Building Information Modelling Programme for Scotland on behalf of Scottish Government. This seeks to improve the application of data management and technology within public sector infrastructure. This role has involved the creation and management of the programme office to develop a BIM Roadmap for Scotland, delivery of training and the creation of a new innovative BIM Guidance Portal and tools for Scotland. All activities are designed to support the public sector procurer in construction adopt BIM and drive change within the Industry to implement new digital ways of working.

I led the delivery of various initiatives to support procurement and outcomes within public sector infrastructure. Projects, guidance and outputs I have developed include:-- Community Infrastructure Benchmark Database- Whole Life Appraisal Tool for the Built Environment- Community Benefit Toolkit for Construction- Environmental Performance Toolkit for ConstructionThe initiatives all stemmed from the recommendations of the Review of Scottish Public Sector Procurement in Construction which was published in October 2013. The review made a number of recommendations in how Scottish public sector procurement could be improved. The projects listed above were in response to these recommendations and developed on behalf of Scottish Government.

This role provided commercial support and expertise within the Schools and Hub Programme which was a £1.3bn community infrastructure programme for Scotland. The role encompassed value for money assessments on new projects, assessing compliance of new construction projects to contractual requirements, delivering project gateway reviews and sharing project information and best practice to support continuous improvement within the programmes.
