Progressing from my previous role with Cummins, and retaining my previous responsibilities, I am now acting as a consultant to the business and particularly, the compressor and turbine sub-systems group 50 plus engineers on all major compressor and turbine design projects. The consulting is for aerodynamics and manufacturing considerations and is spread across our 4 technical centres based in China, India, UK and USA. The work is fairly evenly split between radial compressors (impellers, diffusers and covers) and radial turbines (wheels, housing, nozzle and diffusers).I am still leading the standard working practices that the sub-systems engineers need to complete the designs although the work is less hands on and more managing the individual standard work owners for each of the components that make up the compressor and turbine stages.My current work load also includes supervising a Ph.D., considering light duty compressor noise which is based in India.

Reporting to the Director I am responsible for the world wide design procedures for compressor and turbine stages relating to Light, Medium, Heavy duty and also High Horsepower turbochargers. This involves, compressor stage, impellers, diffusers and compressor covers. For turbine stage, housings, aerodynamic design of the nozzle, turbine wheels and turbine diffusers.The role entails working with the groups 50 plus engineers based in China, India and the UK to ensure that we are working to the latest design practices and using the latest manufacturing knowledge and enhancements.I am also tasked with the approval of individual components or full stages and I must ensure that designs have meet their brief.I am also working on setting the research direction for the group.This builds on my previous experience from aerodynamics and turbine stage standard work owner which I had been doing for the past 20 plus years.

I am responsible for leading a group of aerodynamicists designing turbochargers, and my team work equally on both radial compressors and turbines. We provide support for internal and external customers to the company on all matters relating to turbomachinery aerodynamics. In addition to the role I set the standards and approval criteria for all the major turbine components.In producing designs, we work very closely with suppliers and I therefore have a knowledgable manufacturing background in tooling, machining, castings and forming.
