Joined Waylett & Co initially in an auditing role checking surveyors reports were fit for submission to their Insurance Client. The role developed into becoming their Supplier Development Manager. This role required me to be the technical point of referral for the validation surveyor’s insurance queries, undertaking site audits with them and also vetting and recruiting new surveyors to the network. I also produced and delivered training seminars to the surveyors in respect of Insurance Principles and also undertook Perils training. I also acted in a surveying role covering areas across the north when required

Set up a satellite office for a building contractor business in Doncaster South Yorkshire. Sourced premises, recruited trade and developed the business. Having secured a client base and maintained the relationship, I was responsible for all aspects of running a small contractor business. From estimating, project management, materials purchasing, cost management, HR, quality control, compliance through to job completion and hand over. The main business activity was in the full refurbishment of domestic properties in both the private and housing association sectors using both retained and sub contract labour

Joined Halifax General Insurance in a project role setting up their claims field force business. Responsibilities included producing the technical claims handling briefings, IT process and various reference papers for the field based claims consultants. The field force went live in April 2002 and I moved across into the business as a home based Personal Claims Consultant(PCC). Responsible for both contents and buildings claims. No handling limit in respect of contents claims and also responsible for day to day running of buildings claims including large losses (£25k plus) in hand with the project managed perils/subsidence surveyors. Fully delegated to deal with claims from notification to settlement, producing building scopes and the management of the preferred contractors appointed. Secondments were undertaken within the subsidence team to support my Building Surveying studies, this involved shadowing with the surveyors and learning about diagnosis and methods of repairs on subsidence losses and the management of such cases. In July 2007 I became part of Halifax’s specialist PCC flood team managing a case load of 85 flood damaged domestic properties. This entailed managing two of their recommended contractors from initial scheduling and estimating of the works with both the contractor and customer, pre contract visits, progress site visits and job sign off. The value of the reinstatement works was up to circa £50k. CDM and Building Regulation adherence was also part of the specialist flood role.

International Commission for Holocaust Era Insurance Claims (ICHEIC), took a contract role with the commission as a Claims Supervisor. Responsible for day to day process management of the outsourced claims handling company, call centre located in New York and with the 5 European insurers signed up to the ICHEIC process to search their archives for unpaid life policies during the Holocaust era

Moved into a trainee loss adjusting role with the Cunningham Select business dealing with Royal and Sun Alliance claims. Home based role covering the central London area. Became part of the Royal and Sun Alliance field force when they purchased the Select Business. Continued in the same role and area covering both direct and broker claims. Majority of the building claims involved commercial blocks of flats policies. Responsible for scoping repairs and appointment and control of the local contractors on building claims
