Overall commercial responsibility for Novus Social Housing works in the Midlands and South of the country. Includes tendering, contract review and negotiations, mobilisation, working capital management, profitability, various levels of reports regional performance to the board at a leadership level.

I have overall responsibility for painting, repairs and minor refurbishment works for the midlands area. My duties include managing the businesses annual budget, controlling the business overhead, tendering and winning works in line with the business needs and strategic aims, control of programmes, planning works in line with forecast and of course making profit. I also manage a team of 4 surveyors a contracts manager and 2 contract supervisors as well as approximately 60-70 trade staff. I monitor and control project deliver, variations, cash flow, billing and manage identified risks on our projects via my team. I also help guide and develop my team through regular reviews and refocusing of what is important and what our key accountabilities are. I have to prepare monthly reports to the board of general managers and quarterly reports for the board of directors on the overall financial delivery of the business and the key KPI's by which the business is held to account. I also hold overall responsibility for the business valuations to ensure that the business is not to at risk.

I am responsible for tendering, pricing, bid submissions, produce rate, fill in tender documents, material and supply chain procurement and contract setup, monthly accounts, cost control, set production rates / targets, commercial control and leadership, put together business monthly accounts, finanical performance forecasting and control, budget meetings with board.

Main roles and responsibilities were cost control, tender, procurement, monthly accounts, budget control, monthly financial reports to the board of directors, programming, for the whole business turning in the region of £3-4 million a year as the sole surveyor.

I worked at Bagnalls for just over one and half years. I was employed as a Trainee QS / Contracts Manager. The following are the main roles and responsibilities for this role:Measure, quote and run contracts won through enquiriesEnsure health and safety conditions meet current regulations on siteEnsure that operatives are following Bagnalls H & S requirements and working safely.Process time sheets for current contracts running on a weekly basis ensuring that everything is in order.Monitoring costs for contracts both running and preparing to start.Keep client's up to date with works being undertaken and ensure that the works meet their requirementsEnsure contracts meet budget cost and time scales allowed for.Helping claim procedures in New Build projects against principal contracts During my time at Bagnalls I have worked on a number of projects from £2,000.00 - £250,000.00 both on my own and as part of a team. All the contracts I have won have made profit and recovered full overheads while passing unplanned health and safety inspections by our internal and external safety advisors.

My roles and responsibilities were the same as at GBC. I completed my apprenticeship with W & K. For a short period after completing my apprenticeship I stayed on as a qualified Carpenter until starting university.

As an apprentice I mainly learnt my trade, health and safety on site and on-site awareness. My main roles were to help with anything on site and to learn my trade from the tradesmen I was assigned to.
