Paul Galando is a collaborative partner, investor, producer, director, educator, and consultant working in film, XR, virtual production, emerging movement tech, and entrepreneurship within the arts community, educational institutions, and corporate/non-profit organizations. He is passionate about creating opportunities for cinematic movement tech artists. Paul is a Partner at HOLODECK LED. He also leads the Emerging Movement Volumetric Collab—an inter.university cinematic research collaborative launched at NYU—connecting education with industry. He has produced / directed films, installations, and performances for companies and artists around the world.As a founding faculty director (movement + film + tech & research) at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, he launched a department-wide new media collaborative initiative and MFA designed to teach and encourage choreographers, filmmakers, technologists, and dancers’ involvement in all areas of digital production: filming immersive performances, creating film/dance, and interactive/volumetric work. He has designed courses in graduate and undergraduate divisions covering academic, aesthetic, and technology subjects, including filming the moving body, dance & new media, live-filmmaking, digital portfolio, virtual reality, immersive performance, and most recently a grad seminar, “Moving Volumetrically,” at the intersection of virtual production and movement technologies.Paul has created media partnerships and collaborations with leading organizations, including the Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center, New York City Ballet, Yerba Buena Arts, Merce Cunningham, 92NY, Martha Graham, MoMA, Guggenheim, Whitney, Cantor, New York Live Arts, and Film at Lincoln Center.Paul served as President of the Board and Chair of Education for DFA (presenting the DOCF with Film at Lincoln Center). He has served in volunteer/philanthropic leadership roles for arts organizations, including the DNM Foundation, Gibney (launching the Digital Technology Initiative), and Heidi Latsky Dance (an all-abilities dance company). He has supported & collaborated with Dance/NYC as a sponsor and technology partner.Paul has worked as a leader in academic technology development with NYU IT and as a researcher in strategic change management at Novations Group, Inc., where he was also a director of new media. He began his career with Walt Disney Studios/Buena Vista Pictures in film publicity and marketing. He is a film graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, a member of the NYU Alumni Leadership Team, and a classically trained dancer.
