As ELT, responsibilities include: Strictly maintaining propulsion plant water chemistry and radiological controls through sampling and chemical additions, and supervising all maintenance associated with radiological components and systems. As Chief Reactor Watch, duties include: supervising propulsion plant watch standers, overseeing plant response to casualties, relaying proper messages, giving proper orders, acting on knowledge and experience of integrated plant operations, plant response to maneuvering transients and flight operations, log review, and ensuring proper communications among all watch stations in the plant. These duties are carried out in a high pressure combat environment. A Surface Warfare Specialist must demonstrate knowledge of all jobs on the ship, the mission of the ship, and how they integrate (such as radar, sonar, ordinance handling, fire control, damage control, and flight operations). As chief of the Chemical and Parts Supply chain, responsibilities include: ensuring on time ordering and delivery of chemicals and parts essential to continued propulsion plant operation, supporting the ships’ mission, and closely tracking inventory of over 500 different chemicals and parts. As Dosimetry Technician, responsibilities include: monitoring and recording radiation exposure records of all the ship's personnel. Three yearly Reactor Safeguard Evaluations were executed during time spent on the ship, all receiving above fleet average remarks.
