However, GreggAir faded away after 2 years; MAS morphed into BlueStream and went into administration after a further two years. Great shame, great potential but poor management took its toll I guess - then in came the administrators and down went the bank balance. Nevertheless it was good experience while it lasted and some great people, with the added bonus of learning how to be a flight and ground operations manager (and how to make friends with the UK CAA ;)) Also lessons hard-learned about the fickle nature of the aviation industry and how it can bite unsuspecting and trusting employees. Rant over.

Became worldwide company troubleshooter for commercial/aviation fuels and lubricants business.Traded products and negotiated deals with oil companies and customers in India, Iran, Pakistan, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Singapore - and others I'd rather not mention! Lots of travel.Got involved with Shell Group HR employee competence analysis and delivered training programs for marketing and sales staff. That was fun.Even had a crack at understanding how to build roads and runways with Shell Bitumen, a complex business model if ever there was one! -
Marine Engineer OfficerShell Tankers (Uk) Ltd Sep 1971 - Apr 1984Seagoing, Shipbuilding, Research, Training, OffshoreHighlights included becoming a specialist in the design, development and upgrading of safe low energy electronic control systems which operated ship-to-shore cryogenic emergency shut-down installations at the LNG fields of Lumut, Borneo.Contracted out for a period to Malaysian Shipping Corporation’s LNG tanker fleet to train up their engineers. Operated the first unmanned engine-room 313,000 deadweight tonne supertanker, built at Harland and Wolff Belfast, 32,000 shaft horse power.Actively contributed to the Shell program to reduce the unacceptably high number of lost-time accidents at sea and picked up a few safety awards etc. Was conferred the title of European Engineer with FEANI as a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Marine Engineer. Nice to be called Herr Doktor by Deutsch Shell research colleagues for efforts in continuous combustion engineering, reducing harmful emissions, and further research into cryogenic systems.
