Develop business product strategies that optimize financial opportunities for Duke Energy through a deep understanding of financial business structures, regulatory policy and requirements. Wholesale Accounting Manager, Controllers Department, Duke Energy, Inc. – Supervised a team of nine employees in the ratemaking, accounting and reporting of wholesale contracts which comprised 20% of the company’s revenue. Responsible for meeting with wholesale executives and presenting the drivers of their demand and energy bills. Additionally, oversaw the reporting and accounting of all fuel hedges, joint dispatch and purchased power to ensure the company stayed within policies defined by each state commission. • Identified and corrected reporting errors in the federal energy forms which prior to correction created an under collection of $6M in annual customer bills • Redesigned the gas accounting/IT process allowing the department to reduce headcount by two full time employees

Oversaw a team of eight accountants with the responsibility for accounting and reporting of all company generation assets, depreciation studies, material/supply inventory, asset retirement obligations and nuclear decommissioning trust funds.• Worked with a cross-functional team in developing a methodology to transfer gas turbines between jurisdictions at market value based that met FERC rules. Received James B. Duke award, the highest award given to an employee, due to this work never done by another utility which allowed Duke to reduce inventory by $60M.• Setup and conducted cross-departmental meetings to ensure accounting and reporting data flowed to and from the appropriate departments. These meetings led to increased efficiency in providing timely and accurate financial data three days earlier than previously achieved.

Managed a staff of six that administered the negotiation of contracts used by the trading floor and fuels group. • Identified deficient controls within the internal trading system and implemented a process which mitigated this risk. Redesigned the data flow within the fuel management system allowing the reduction of one head count.• Led team without any delays in the Department of Justice review of contracts related to the merger with Progress Energy.

Supervised the accounting and reporting for all Midwest energy consumption. • Successfully led the accounting department’s user acceptance testing for an extensive system upgrade and surpassed all internal deadlines. • Developed and implemented the regulated utility capital requirements for over $1B of assets allowing the company to capture tax advantages in excess of $200M.
