A product of the NSW VET system,I commenced work in 1979 as an apprentice in Telstra before moving into the electrotechnology industry sector in the early 1980s.This career change was driven by exciting developments in consumer electronics at that time in Australia.I returned to Telstra in 1985 and during the next 5 years rose through the ranks of Technician, Technical Officer and finally Principle Telecommunications Technical Officer.It was in 1990 at Telstra Training that I commenced my career in VET, working as an industry trainer. For the next four years I conducted itinerant training for Telstra staff throughout NSW on new and emerging technologies such as optical fibre transmission systems.I joined TAFE NSW in 1994, working as a teacher in electrotechnology and telecommunications before moving into senior education roles in 2005.For the next 7 years I has worked closely with Industry skills Councils, State Training Services and other industry and government agencies on a diverse range of successful projects to support all 10 TAFE NSW Institutes. This included training package development and implementation as well as the development of accredited courses and support material.Since 2012, I have worked closely with stakeholders from the engineering industry sector as a Project Officer for TAFE NSW South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi) on the Engineering Excellence Project. This national project, managed by the Australian Industry Group, seeks to better implement competency based progression and completion for apprentices in engineering apprenticeships.This project sees a continuation in my project management roles since 2005.Following redundancy in 2015 from TAFE NSW I have been self employed, working in hospitality and as a contractor in strata maintenance.I have the current workplace Training and Assessment qualifications and am seeking re employment in a training role.
