I am a senior lecturer in the School of Medicine, and Deputy Dean for Education for the Faculty of Medical Sciences. My background is in Neuroscience but moved into teaching following a short period of post-doctoral research. Prior to coming to Newcastle I worked in a FE college teaching A-levels and access to HE (Nursing and Midwifery). When working for the college I completed a Professional Graduate Diploma in Teaching in the Life-long Learning Sector (PGDTLLS, 2011). I also work part time for the Open University facilitating online and distance learning for two modules. In 2015 I completed a Masters in Education from the Open University. I have also complete the Newcastle Teaching AwardI have taught on a range of courses within the faculty of medical sciences including stage 2 and stage 3 biomedical sciences and stage 1 dentistry. For stage 1 dentistry I was module lead for neurobiology from 2014 until the current academic year. For MBBS I teach throughout the first two years of the course, but mainly focus on neurophysiology and neuroanatomy teaching. I have recently returned to the UK following secondment to our NUMed Malaysia campus as Dean of Academic Affairs. I also spent time at NUMed in 2016 setting up the Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences course.I have had a lot of experience developing e-learning resources and blended teaching approaches. I have also delivered training sessions throughout the medical school and in regional hospitals (eg. Wansbeck, James Cook, North Tyneside) on use of the medical learning environment and the online learning tutorial tool. Outside of the University I am an external examiner for the third year junior honours module ‘Neuroscience 3’ at Edinburgh University.
