Principal Systems Modeling & Simulation EngineerNorthrop Grumman Apr 2018 - PresentFalls Church, Va, UsGMD: (Ground-Based Midcourse Defense). Primary duties include conducting software-module and system-level performance and behavior analyses; producing software prototypes / algorithm development; software testing, risk reduction, and failure mitigation; kill-vehicle modeling and simulation integration; and software configuration management of Matlab code and tools using Git and Tortoise SVN. Secondary duties include conducting threat intercept shot doctrine parametric analyses, acting as a technical mentor to interns, aiding algorithms team in transitioning from a Waterfall software development paradigm to an AGILE software development paradigm, and presenting results and findings to stakeholders. -
Systems Modeling & Simulation Engineer IiiNorthrop Grumman Sep 2015 - Apr 2018Falls Church, Va, UsC2BMC: (Command & Control Battle Mgmt. & Communications) | Missile Defense National Team (MDNT). Primary duties included software configuration management of the MATLAB-based C2BMC Benchmark Simulation using Git version control, which included the tracking and integration of code improvements and resolved defects across a multitude of decentralized software repositories. Additional duties included aiding in the maturation and general maintenance of technical documentation and algorithm description documents, presenting technical items to the Program Engineering Review Board for review and acceptance, leading weekly software Change Control Board meetings, managing shipments and transfers of data items among Missile Defense National Team constituents, participating in computer cluster hardware procurement efforts, and aiding in the generation and verification of simulation scenarios. (Sept. 2015 - March 2017) -
Systems Modeling & Simulation Engineer IiNorthrop Grumman Jan 2014 - Sep 2015Falls Church, Va, UsEBCS: (Enterprise Battle Command System) Contributed to the development and testing of sensor access, weapon access, weapon target assignment, threat evaluation, engagement execution, ABT and TBM trajectory propagation, and weapon control volume algorithms (Spiral 1-3). Supported Spiral 1 & 2 analyses which included algorithm unit testing, requirements verification and validation, common software module performance testing, collaboration with systems engineers, and the generation of automated analysis tools in MATLAB. Used both the EBCS End-to-End Simulation (MATLAB) and ITEx (C++) for scenario visualization. Also supported the integration of EBCS software onto hardware in the SIL (Software Integration Laboratory) by configuring and executing ITEx (on Linux). (Jan. 2014 - Sept. 2015) -
Systems Modeling & Simulation Engineer IiNorthrop Grumman Sep 2012 - Jan 2014Falls Church, Va, UsHard Candy IR&D: (compact, finless-missile) Conducted algorithm development; performed software integration and testing in C++, Simulink and MATLAB; generated both conceptual and specification-derived CAD missile models using SolidWorks; conducted CFD analyses of the missile’s airframe in SolidWorks Flow Simulation which guided the design of the missile, and provided aerodynamic data to be used during simulation of the missile’s controlled flight; conducted CFD on NG’s micro-thruster technology; and conducted trade studies concerning the missile’s mass properties, possible micro-thruster / airframe configurations, induced thermal failure modes, and the missile’s center-of-pressure and inertia-matrices for the full range of all anticipated flight conditions. (Sept. 2013 – Jan. 2014)IFPC2I IR&D: (Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 – Intercept) Created an interceptor-centric simulation platform in C++ which featured “plug-and-play” interceptor, threat, radar, seeker, guidance, navigation, and launcher models. A SIMDIS visualization application programming interface (API) was also constructed for this IR&D. (July 2013 – Sept. 2013)Hunter UAV IR&D: Wrote an API for NRL’s SIMDIS visualization environment in C++. I also helped construct the “MOSP-3000 Hunter UAV Payload Simulator”, which used the API along with a GUI to train military personnel. Also generated specification-derived CAD models in SolidWorks and Blender. (June 2013 – July 2013)EAPS: (Extended Area Protection and Survivability) Performed defense missile simulations and supported aeronautical engineering development of the EAPS interceptor and system. Duties included simulation and algorithm development, visualization support, wind tunnel model support and development, flight test predictions, as well as HWIL support. (Sept. 2012 – June 2013) -
Graduate Research AssistantUniversity Of Alabama In Huntsville Jan 2011 - Aug 2012Huntsville, Al, UsPerformed conceptual design work for potential flight technology demonstrator vehicles. Responsibilities included: developing requirements with stakeholders; frequent reporting with the principal investigator; cost, risk, and performance analyses; the creation and maintenance of databases; the creation of design analysis tools; computer aided design (CAD); computational fluid dynamics (CFD); propulsion system sizing; and conducting detailed trade studies. Additional duties included sizing conceptual launch vehicles, as well as mentoring high school and undergraduate students involved with NASA's New Frontiers Integrated Product Team in the Huntsville area. -
Structural Analysis EngineerRotorcraft Systems Engineering & Simulation Center Sep 2010 - Dec 2010Conducted structural analysis on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner advanced composite structures. Structures included floor beams, brackets, cargo bays, and stanchions. Analysis included determining stresses, strains, safety factors and potential failure modes.
